"There were at least twenty, possibly thirty. It's a bigger gathering than any small hunting group I've ever seen," she murmured. "We might be able to watch them by climbing trees. They were headed directly for the town when I saw them, but there's no telling where they'll head when they're done combing through it."

"Yes, probably." She sighed deeply. "We'll need to be vigilant. If we can observe where they're going, we can better avoid them." Maybe there's a magic point at the top of the world where they're migrating, and when they all get there they'll vanish and we'll be safe and life can be normal again.
Venus twitched her ears. "We need to go faster. I have a bad feeling about our current pace." She saw a rather short and violent future for the three of them if they didn't start moving quickly.
Thea sighed yet again. "Venus says we need to go faster. What kind of shelter situation are we looking at in the woods?"

Vincent began to realize how awkward it was, standing out here in the middle of the sidewalk. Cautiously, he climbed the steps to the door of the café, gesturing for Ricardo to follow.

"Do you know anything about her, by the way? It would help me choose which flowers to use in the arrangement. Marco wasn't much help," Vincent explained, walking up to the counter and ordering a coffee. "Oh, do you want a pastry or anything?" he asked, almost as a second thought.

"Oh! No, no. I was just going to order an espresso for later," Ricardo answered. "And about his wife, I've only met her a few times. Her name's Victoria, and she really likes blue things. I think. I mean, she wears the same blue scarf every day. And she also really likes little tiny flowers, like Baby's Breath, Judas says."

"Oh, thank you..." he mumbled, setting his coffee on the table and sitting. Well, so far, this isn't going as disastrously as I thought it would, so that must be a good sign... Luckily, the table was positioned right next to the window, which provided both distractions as well as possible conversation starters.

"Aww, you have a cat? What's his name?" Ricardo felt a smile tug at his lips. He was more of a dog person, but cats were certainly nice to look at. He couldn't count the number of cat tattoos he had to do, especially around Halloween.
