"Hopefully not long. We can keep stopping in cities they've abandoned for supplies." -- Marco pursed his lips together. He didn't want to bad-mouth his boss, especially in front of his son. Last time trust had happened... At any rate, perhaps this was why he was so eager for Vincent to possibly enter a relationship. Maybe he'd eventually have someone to support him and allow him to leave his dependency on Mr. McKinney.

"Anyway... It's not a bad job. I don't mind it. And it's not like I have to pay rent or anything. Besides, I love the shop and the flowers and I couldn't really imagine working anywhere else."

Marco shrugged uncomfortably, eager to change the subject. If he thought about Mr. McKinney too much, he'd start thinking about his own father. "How's your mom doing, then? She good?"

"Yeah, she's been doing alright. Still in recovery, though, but she should be able to come home soon. I'm just glad we were able to pay all the medical bills, y'know?"

"Maybe you could welcome her home with a nice bouquet. She'd like that, I think." Marco tilted his head, fingers drumming against the sink. "I know my ma likes getting flowers."

"She's always liked daffodils, which we don't have in the garden at the moment. So maybe I could get her some bulbs for her to plant. What do you think?"

"Family garden. Cute idea," Marco murmured with a nod. "I should try that. If only my mother wouldn't insist on studying every plant we'd grow, conduct a few small experiments, and dissect every flower afterwards."

"We already have the garden, we just need the daffodils. And as for your mom, we have leaves and stems galore, so we could always give you some to take to her if she needs any."

"I'm not so sure about that. I asked your father just last week... he's not a huge fan of my family. He said no."

"Oh... Of course," Vincent muttered. "He's not much of a fan of anything. Well, he's still off running errands, so take these." He gathered the cut-off stems of the flowers into a small bundle and handed it to Marco. "There's no use for these besides compost, so take them. The shop closes soon, and I don't know when my dad will be back, so you might be able to leave before he returns."

Marco smiled, reaching out to ruffle Vincent's hair. "Thanks, kid. This is nice of you to do."

"It's no trouble, really." Vincent glanced up at the clock on the wall. "It's nearly five. No one's gonna come in this late, so I might as well close up shop. You can go if you want."

"I probably should get back to my apartment before my roommate gets worried," Marco sighed. "Especially if I'm going to drop these off at my Mom's. See you later, then." He stepped towards the back door before glancing back. "And say hi to tattoo boy for me after closing up shop."

"Oh, uh, yeah sure... See you tomorrow." Vincent gathered up the flowers on the worktable, setting them in a vase so they wouldn't wilt while he cleaned up.

Across the street, Ricardo waved the last client off. Around five was when they usually closed for a few hours to take a break before the very busy night shift, when people that frequented the other nearby shops usually wanted tattoos done. Judas stood, muttering something about his wife visiting soon before tossing Ricardo the keys to the place.

Vincent finished cleaning and storing the flowers quicker than usual, signing out on the register and hanging up his apron. He hung the "closed" sign in the window on his way out, trying to formulate a good excuse as to why he was wandering the street for no particular reason. Maybe he would just say he'd gone for a walk. Vincent strolled a little ways down the sidewalk before crossing the street in an attempt to make himself less obvious. As he got close to the tattoo parlor, he stiffened, but forced himself to keep walking until he was in front of the coffee shop that sat on the parlor's left.

Ricardo looked up as he was locking the door, seeing the boy from the flower shop-- Vincent, his name was-- over by the cafe next door. With a faint smile, he raised his hand in a small wave.

In that moment, everything seemed to stop working. And unfortunately, "everything" included his voice. Unable to form a response, Vincent just stood there, half smiling and probably looking like a complete lunatic.

Last time trust had happened... At any rate, perhaps this was why he was so eager for Vincent to possibly enter a relationship. Maybe he'd eventually have someone to support him and allow him to leave his dependency on Mr. McKinney. Thea nodded, frowning. "Assuming we don't get killed when the migrating herd passes, that's a reasonable plan." The idea of moving constantly unnerved her, but there was no safe way to build a home base. Nearly nothing would stop the monsters when they were on the hunt, as she'd witnessed. A base like the old coffee shop would just corner the monsters' prey, making easy meals when discovered. Venus moved forward at a trot, reaching the treeline.

Ricardo chuckled, making his way over. "Are... you okay? You want to go sit down?" -- "We'll have to keep tabs on the herd as well, make sure we know where they're moving." Giovanni glanced sideways at Thea and Venus before stepping into the forest, legs tickled by the ferns and underbrush. "One of these is hard enough to fight. How big did you say the group was?"
