The AU, or Alternate Universe, is one of the most quintessential aspects of the fandom-- A hypothetical, self-contained, separate reality co-existing with one's own. Harped upon by fans for about as long as fandoms have existed, these parallel realities have been discussed, unpacked, rebuilt, and explored with how they affect and change the narratives of canonical and original characters. This month, let's take a break from torturing your characters to have you, the creator, answer the question: If there were another universe in which this character existed, where would it be?
Notes:- Any AU goes. Genderbend AUs, Coffee Shop AUs, Soulmate AUs, ect.
- You can absolutely put your characters as if they were in another fandom roleplay. For example, a Hunger Games AU or a Divergent AU.
- You can have multiple AUs for each character, too, if you want.
- This is just a pin-post that explores how the environment may shape a character's personality. Have fun with it!
- 50 posts for the honorary pin.

Nicolas shifted in his bed. He'd been awake for hours, but just now had the thought occurred to him to actually get out of bed. Without help from his family, today. After all, it seemed possible that today might be the last day they'd be able to help him for a very long time. After all, today was the Choosing Ceremony.

The coffee shop had once been cozy and bright, bustling with carefree young couples in their shiny romantic AU settings. The faintest whiff of pastries and love was all that remained of those days. Now, a girl and her cat sat concealed behind a wall of cute coffee-shop tables and chairs and knickknacks, which had become their go-to shelter ever since the Unexplained Monster Apocalypse had shattered their peaceful Shop AU.
Thea knew she'd have to go out again soon. Her cat's eyes shone sharp with hunger, and she herself was feeling weak with it. She berated herself for losing the only weapon she'd been able to find last time she'd ventured out- no amount of magic was able to faze the monsters, and they seemed to see right through her illusion spells. Her Coffee-Shop Romantic Interest had been killed days after the monsters arrived, leaving herself and Venus utterly alone.
She stood, grabbing the detached leg of a chair. This'll have to do. "Stay safe, V." Thea crawled through a gap in the table-and-chair wall and strolled out the broken coffee-shop door.

Giovanni was picking through a garbage truck that had fallen near the coffee shop long ago, but he knew that there wouldn't be anything useful. Other looters had probably taken everything of value months previous. Still, the hollow feeling in his stomach kept him searching, poking through garbage bags and loose trash with a stick.

Thea's grip on her chair-leg tightened. Noises… it's another monster. If she ran, she'd lead it right to the coffee shop. She stalked toward the garbage truck, prepared to whack the lights out of whatever creature was rustling around in it.

Giovanni didn't notice, continuing to poke around in the trash and trying to block out the noise of his growling stomach. I better be fast... who knows if some monsters will want to come around here? I guess I could try hiding in the coffee shop...

After a brief hesitation, Thea made a leap for the garbage, swinging her chair leg wildly at anything that appeared to move. "Die! Die! Die!" If this doesn't stun it or kill it I need to think up some really good last words.

Giovanni yelped, holding his hands over his face and feeling the chair leg strike his arms. The attacker didn't seem particularly physically strong, but the hits from the wood still managed to burn and ache. "S-stop! Please! I don't have any food on me, I swear!"

Thea lowered her weapon. "Oh my god. I thought… uh, sorry. I didn't know you were human. Sorry, uh… sorry." Oh god oh god oh god I just hit some innocent person with a chair leg what do I do

Giovanni trembled, slowly lowering his hands. His attacker was taller than him, and older, with dark hair and olive skin. She didn't seem like the type to attack anyone without reason, but by now he had learned not to judge on appearances. "W-who are you?"

She took a calming breath. The kid in front of her looked terrified, not the threat she'd expected. "My name is Thea. I was looking for some food for my cat and myself, and I'm very sorry I mistook you for one of the monsters. Who are you?"

"Giovanni," the boy muttered, scratching at the back of his head. "I think," he added in a mumble. "Pretty sure it was that. Could'a been George. Or Giorgio."

Thea raised an eyebrow. "Okay. Do you know of any other humans in the area? Where've you been staying?" This is very weird. Perhaps he is overcome with an anxious daze. I did just try to kill him with a chair leg. Would that give one memory problems? Obligatory Coffee-Shop Love Interest would've known.

"I..." Giovanni frowned, searching his memory for any other faces. As usual, only the memories since the Infection were clear; beyond that, all he could remember were vague blurs of faces and voices. "I don't know of anyone else. And I'm not really staying anywhere... been going from place to place."

Thea frowned. "How have you managed to survive this long traveling alone? I've been living in that coffee shop with my cat since the beginning, and even we've had some close calls."

"I keep moving as soon as they show up. Don't try to fight them. Don't have a group holding me down, either." He shrugged, looking uncomfortable at the mention of the word 'group.' "I've had a lot of close calls too, but I've managed to survive thus far. The monsters... they're not exactly subtle."

Thea smiled. "Yeah, those monsters can be a little loud. But a group doesn't necessarily hold you down. You have someone to watch your back and talk to." Cats, as it happened, were excellent for both back-watching and talking to. "Making it this far on your own, though… that's something to be proud of."

Philip sat behind the large tree, breathing heavily and clutching his dagger as if his life depended on it, which it did. He could still hear the snuffling behind him, the low grunting of the animal getting closer. It had only been a few days since he'd gotten stranded on this island, but so far he hadn't found anything to eat. That is, until he'd come across what had supposedly been this creature's kill. Now Philip was just focused on not dying. This island was huge, and of course he just had to look for food in just the wrong place.

Victoire shrugged on her FBI Jacket, patting the pocket to make sure her badge was still in place. She exhaled, turning to the pile of files on her desk. She really needed to organize that thing. Through the mess of folders, she could pick out the newest one, an assignment had probably been left on the desk during her lunch break. She shuffled through it, picking out a set of plane tickets. Another day, another destination. This was all typical in Vic's line of work. Why, working for the X-Files department hardly left her any time in Washington at all between missions.

"Don't exactly have anyone around to really be proud of me. What about you? What's your story?"
