The fox stared for a moment at this strange creature, confused by its obvious lack of fear. Then it lunged.
"Lemmingfur!" Mosspaw cried, watching the fox's jaws narrowly miss the scary cat's neck. "What's happening? Who is this?!"

Lemmingfur balked. That loner... leading the fox away from them, but towards camp. "I think that fox is rabid! Or the cat. Or both. We have to get out of here!"

Iris leapt to block their path. "Are you sure?" She puffed up her messy fur and aimed a smack at the fox's muzzle. "Or do you ever consider that the cat is more misunderstood than rapid?" Her jaw began to drip spit.

Mosspaw nodded frantically in agreement, staring in horror at the cat and the fox. One would swipe, another would snap its jaws, back and forth in a deadly dance.

"I'm sorry," she called. Maybe she is rabid... I've never seen a cat that fearless that hadn't been infected. "Mosspaw, be careful!" Lemmingfur headed towards the fighting trio, aiming her own blows at the fox.

Iris dealt a serious blow to the fox's neck, taking pride in the feeling of warm blood on her paws. She hadn't gotten to fight in a long time. Too long.

Mosspaw stared at the she-cats for a moment, frantically revisiting his options. He could run and warn the camp, which was what Lemmingfur would want him to do. But he couldn't leave his mentor with this potentially rabid and insane stranger. So, he could hide nearby, or help the she-cats fight off the fox.
"I'm not hiding," he whispered to himself, and launched himself onto the fox.

Iris fell back in alarm. What's this kit doing? she thought as his scent brushed her nose. She angrily taunted the fox yet again. "No! Follow me!"

Iris rumbled in contentment. That's the point, Clan cat. She began to prance towards camp--this could work. But something stopped her--a snare. A hunter's snare caught her back foot. "Help!" she screeched, foam collecting on her lips.

Lemmingfur stared, conflicted. She couldn't see Mosspaw being able to deal with that fox on his own, but they couldn't leave Iris to die... "Just stay there, we'll free you!"

"Save her!" Mosspaw said, digging his claws into the fox's thick fur. "I can at least stop this thing from getting to the camp while you get her out of there." He wasn't sure why, but somehow he knew that he couldn't just leave the strange cat in the snare. He snapped his jaws at the fox's neck, tasting warm blood in his mouth.

Iris fought the fox snare best she could. I can't have these Clan cats help me! I...I'd be in their debt..! She wrestled it away, the snare only digging deeper and deeper into her skin.

"No, Mosspaw! You're injured, see if you can get that trap off of her, I'll take the fox," Lemmingfur called. Is he able to get away from that fox? "Loner, try to keep your head, we'll get you out of here." The warrior headed for the action.

Mosspaw snarled, digging his claws deeper into the fox's skin in frustration. Didn't his mentor think that he could handle this half-defeated crowfood-eater? But finally, he leapt off of the fox's back and ran to the loner. Immediately, he felt terrified again. W hy had he attacked the fox?...

Iris finally broke free of the snare, hearing the slight crack of her tendon. She bit her lip, struggling to suppress the pain. I...I can't now...now's not yet the time... She hobbled into the woods in a slanted manner, ignoring the snarls, growls, and snaps of the battle taking place.
