"I'd say so," she replied. Around them, the birdsong grew thicker as they went deeper into the forest. Occasionally, a chickadee or sparrow would swoop down above their heads and land neatly on a branch on the other side of the trail.

Eliza smiled warmly at him, pouring some of the crumbs into his hand. A couple more birds alighted on Alain's fingers and dipped their heads down to eat from his palm.
