Jane almost couldn't help but smile. "I know what you mean. I was really unsure about having a relationship at first, so I understand where you're coming from." She gave her sister a quick hug from the side, just about ready to laugh at the coincidence.

"Oh, please do." He smiled pleasantly before glancing over to where she was pointing. Xander's expression slowly lit up. "I think that one'll be great, balancing has always been a huge problem with Thunderbolt brooms but it looks rather complicated..." He hummed to himself, tracing the complex structure of the rune in the air with his finger. This was done several times until he felt some form of satisfaction from the action. "... I'll get the hang of it when I practice more." "Glad I could help," Rita said, a vaguely smug tone in her voice as she pushed the book into his hands. Her mind wandered to the potions essay she had discarded without even starting it. "Say... You don't happen to know anything about the properties of..." She squinted down at her own hands, reading a hastily scribbled phrase on her palm. "Uh, artemisa absinthium...? I don't even know what it is." Xander blinked, looking hopelessly lost. "Bless you." He had no idea why she was expecting him to know at all and he was 100% certain that he was the worst person to ask about it, whatever it was. "Artemi-what now? I swear, they're making up all these obscure names to confuse NEWT students, don't they know that transitioning from OWL level work is hard enough?" Conspiracy theories from the exam board always started cropping up near exam time, maybe some of them were even semi-plausible by now with the amount of genuine bull shoved into the curriculum. |

The Slytherin let out a frustrated sigh. "I'll just leave it. It's not like I was ever going to get it finished anyway. I might as well just face the music." She idly traced a pattern over the wood of the bookshelf behind her, satisfied with the sensation of its glossy surface against her fingertip. "Anyway, I'm doing okay in Herbology and Charms, so hopefully they'll make up for it. Maybe." She didn't mention how dismal her performance was in Defence Against the Dark Arts, but she was working on it. At least, that's what she told her parents. It was a convincing enough lie, she supposed.
