The darkening of her expression, and the obvious attempt to ward him away are quite obviously useless, as he only releases a soft puff of air, in form of a sigh, shoulders raising and dropping in a shrug. That kind of stuff... He really didn't care much about it. Of course, he wouldn't dismiss it when someone else enjoyed the spirit of competition, but he doesn't see the point. Where would such a thing even get you? Nowhere, in his firm opinion. The arms that had been previously raised, drop now, hands folding on the stomach that now lies nearly flat, what with his body sunken down into the chair. 'I know you are. But since you're so smart, you'll be done pretty fast, right? And it won't take loads of time to help. It's mostly going over stuff I did last year, which is your year now. Please?' A long shot in the dark is made, as his eyes soften a fair bit, and he utilises what are near perfected puppy-dog eyes.

She huffed as she quickly realised that she was getting nowhere with him, a hopeless case. Of course he didn't seem to care about house rivalries, from the little she knew of him, he seemed too carefree and there was a part of him that just really wanted her to help him, she was aware of that at least. To her annoyance, he shifted position once more, fidgeting around in his seat and unable to keep still as he sugar coated his words. The frown on her features deepened as she turned to look at him again in a final attempt to get him to go away. That was her first mistake. The eyes. She almost groaned. She looked into his eyes. In her own home, her parents had a dog, a great beast of an animal with shaggy, golden fur that eerily reminded her of the teen slumped down beside her, and she had never once been able to resist its pleading expression whenever it wanted something. "Fine." She said with some reluctance, caving in. "What subject do you need help with?"

A dog would actually be an excellent comparison for the boy, an overly excitable, overly friendly, and rather goofy member of the school. His body perks up again, as she gives a positive answer, back almost springing off the chair as he sits up, body now set in a near perfect right angle. ... If he was a dog, he'd have a tail going at a hundred miles an hour. But since he doesn't, only the grin brightens, hands now shifting to clench into fists in front of his chest, but only after he's shoved both into the air, as some kind of celebration of his minute victory. Oh, right. She's asking something. Gotta pay attention. 'Thank you! I really need the help, see. And, it's Herbology. I guess that's my worst, since remembering all the names and uses and stuff is really hard.'

Yes, definitely a dog. Robyn felt compelled to bury her head in her arms until he went away but she had already agreed, there was no turning back. Besides, there was no way that she could refuse him after seeing his expression light up like that. As much as it bothered her, she had a soft spot for animals and the teen sitting attentively by her side seemed to channel the spirit of one that she held dear. There had to be a limit for how happy a person could be. "Herbology huh?" She murmured, pushing away both her thoughts and her own books to focus on the task ahead. "Let's see it then. For starters, how do you go about learning the plants and their properties?"

Woof. Similarly, if he cared enough about making comparisons, and if he really wanted to, he could equate her with a cat. Generally independent, someone that careful measures needed to be followed for, if trust and like was to be earned. A cat and a dog, huh? An odd pair already. ... That is indeed another question. Does he have an answer? Judging from the somewhat blank expression that crosses his face, and the fact he takes a few moments to blink slowly, in a near dumbfounded manner. 'Go through things over and over until I remember for as long as I need to.' Yeah, that's pretty much what he does. And it did work, for his OWLs, though it's still a miracle he actually passed most of them.

Robyn let out an exasperated sigh and massaged her temples gingerly. She could feel a headache coming on. This was why she preferred to do things on her own and just blank out the rest of the world whilst she concentrated, it didn't involve any of the hassle required in the process of helping someone out. She heard him out until he finished before calculating her own response, a hand cupped around her chin. "And it doesn't seem very effective," she began slowly, "because none of the information stuck after a year." She wasn't exactly the best person to lecture someone about boring revision methods since her own way of studying was rewriting notes over and over again but hey, she still remembered everything from their First Year curriculum. "Why don't you -I don't know- make it a bit more... fun?"

If she's going to bother to help him, he's going to bother to listen, properly. So he does, staring intently at her face as she talks, head tilted just a little to one side as he listens. Ah... She's kind. That's nice. Or, maybe she isn't and this is special circumstance. Even so, he's grateful, and hoping that it shows through his broad smile. 'I guess not. But, I still passed everything! Well, nearly everything. There were just a couple of lower grades...' One hand drifts around to rub the back of his neck just a little, before dragging from there to the front of his hair, mussing the whole thing up another few notches. His features have turned to a somewhat more sheepish expression now, and he shrugs at her next words. 'Fun...? Can somethin' like this even be fun?'

She felt somewhat... unnerved by his stare, as if his eyes were boring holes into her. Yup, too cheerful. The experience was going to deter her from helping people ever again, she better not make a habit out of it she'll never get anything done. Robyn glanced over at her homework longingly, he just needed help for a a little bit, right? "Well you still managed to get into the NEWT classes that you wanted, didn't you?" She asked, feeling self conscious of her own straight hair and glad that she at least ran a brush through it that morning. "You could make revision seem more visually appealing or something like that. You know, to make it easier to remember."

Sure, it would hopefully only be a few moments in which he required her assistance. Several instances of a few moments. As she's talking now, he holds up a finger, standing up to his full, overgrown height. 'Wait a moment.' Is the only explanation he gives her, before he hurries off, back to where his stuff has been resting. Then, with relative ease, he lifts pretty much everything into his arms, carries it over, and sets it all on the table, slinging his cloak around the back of the chair that he drops into, in a highly ungraceful manner. 'Yeah, I did. I'm not the smartest of people, but I work really hard, so I guess that kinda makes up for it.' He blinks a few times again, considering her words. 'More visually appealing...? How do I do that?'

She blinked, rather stunned and intimidated as she saw how tall he really was up close, Robyn herself only stood at 155cm, which was approximately 5'1, and it annoyed her to no end that she remained one of the shortest in her classes. The teen in front of her apparently had the complete opposite problem. She watched him with curiosity as he left the table only for him to reappear a moment later with his things. Ah, that explained it. "Working hard is good, it shows you have the right work ethic for this sort of thing." She mused, pondering how to answer his question for a brief second or so. "Well... Colours? Black ink is the norm around here but teachers don't care what your notes look like as long as they're legible. I'm pretty sure that there's a shop in Hogsmeade that sells all sorts of coloured inkwells, you could use those to mark out different points or to categorise your information."

6'5, or thereabouts. Ridiculous. Kaleb runs a hand through his hair again, tousling the locks that are in desperate need of a trim. It seems it's something of a nervous habit, for him, or at least, something he's used to doing often. Especially with how smoothly his hand runs through the golden colour and cuts close to his scalp, with slender fingers. '... I guess so, huh? I've always been one for gettin' the job done and stuff.' He gives another shrug. his grin reappearing, brighter than ever. Does he ever stop? 'Different colours... Alright. A place like that in Hogsmeade... Will you come with me, next time then? To show me. It'll only take a few minutes of your time, promise.'

She picked up on him running his hand through his disheveled hair for the umpteenth time that day and opened her mouth to question it before catching herself. It was probably a subconscious thing and it wasn't like she cared. She certainly didn't want him to think that she cared. Everyone had their own little gestures and habits and it wasn't like she wanted to know more about the ludicrously tall boy who seemed too happy for his own good sitting right beside her. "Ah, then that makes my job a lot easier since you actually want to study." Robyn hummed as he smiled again. If he grinned any brighter then she would have to squint to even look at him. "Go with you to Hogsmeade?" She pulled a face. "Surely you should know where I'm talking about? You're in 6th Year, it's not exactly hard to know the layout of a small village by then."

Seemingly in opposition to her, he can't help but take a quick interest in other people, so he'd really quite gladly listen to her talk for several hours on end about herself, and retain every word. And yet, he'd still never remember most of his work. People were more of his forte, anyway. 'Of course I want to! I have to make the grades to do what I want to. There's no way I'd shirk any of it.' Kaleb's head bobs in an enthusiastic nod, the grin reduced, just a little, to something a little more like a soft smile. 'Yeah!' He seems quite happy for a moment, before she mentions that, and he pouts slightly, cheeks puffing out and head bowing. 'Well, you've been talking to me for a while... You should already know I'm not that good with rememberin' things...'

It was strange for her to be talking to someone like this, never mind helping them. Forget a 6th year Gryffindor, even with her own room mates, she would only interact with them when it was necessary and why not? She had a clear goal in life since her first year and distractions at school wouldn't help her in the long run. Robyn knew that but here she was, pulling herself away from her Potions essay and even further away from whatever free time she could have opened up for additional reading. "It's good to hear that you're at least concerned for your future." She nodded, somewhat surprised and somewhat impressed. She thought she knew his kind of person. Robyn looked away. "I mean... Don't you have friends to go with you? You said that they're working now but they'll probably go to Hogsmeade to enjoy themselves. It's not like they'll skip several trips to stay in the castle and... study..." She trailed off. Ah. That sounded familiar.

((Still has no idea)) James trotted around the library feeling uncomfortable with the book in hands. He knew it was wrong to eavesdrop, especially wrong for a Hufflepuff...

... Ah, there it is. Something about her. it's obvious by her tone of voice and her trailing off, that she's done that before herself, a fair few times. Interesting. So, she needs someone to try and pull her out of her shell, no matter how reluctant and stubborn she may be about doing so, huh? He'd take that job, and he could probably get her to help him study and learn along the way. Excellent. An entirely fair exchange. 'Of course I'm concerned. Well, not so much concerned, as set in with what I want to do already.' His grin turns just a tad sly, and his gaze now lands on her from the corner of his eyes. 'I do, but the people I'd go with are more likely to go drinking butterbeer and buyin' other stuff, than helping me sort myself out. If you come with me, we can buy somethin' you want, too, and I'll pay. Come on.'

((it's okay, Shimmy. Do whatever, no rules))
There seemed to be a minute change within him, she felt uneasy. It was almost as if he had realised something important... Ah. She shrugged it off, it didn't matter to her. If he tried to keep hanging around, she would just push him away like everyone else. "It's always good to have a life plan." She furrowed her brow, growing suspicious due to his demeanor. To Robyn, it almost seemed as if he wanted her to ask just what he wanted to do after leaving Hogwarts. "Drag them along or something. As of now, I don't have any need to go into Hogsmeade, once you've been several times, it really isn't that exciting anymore."

His elbows are back on the table, fingers laced easily together as his chin rests atop the pair of them, head tilted in her direction, with the soft smile still pulled over his features. 'It is, isn't it? Mine is already set in motion, I think, since I'm on NEWTs year. Hopefully it'll go well for me, and I won't fail everythin'. A hand extracts itself and waves, cutting through the air cleanly for a short while, in a dismissive manner. 'Really?' And out come the puppy-dog eyes again. 'But you know what you're doin', right? So you could really be a big help!'
