Scarecrow padded forward, but froze, the bits of fur on his back around scars rising. "You have...kits in your camp?" His teeth began to chatter. "I don't want to harm the kits, too. That happened too much. Too much." The second time he spoke it was feeble and his voice was like a whisper.

Scarecrow looked at the ground scathingly. "Got eaten up. I took 'em outside--you see, Mother abandoned them and left them to me--and those...those..." He could not bring himself to say it. "Those big dogs came and ripped me up. But ripped me up last, you see. I had to watch the rest of them get thrown around." His voice was hoarse, and there was the slightest bit of sanity left in him.

Gullfrost was speechless for a moment. He knew that somehow, "sorry" just wouldn't cut it. "It'll be alright..." he repeated. "I'll take you to a safe place, I promise." He couldn't find it in himself to say more, not that there was anything else he could've said anyway.
