"Eli," Marco called down the corridor, voice tentative. He didn't like the dark. In the dark, they seemed much more powerful and much more real. He stared down into the inky blackness, wondering if he'd be able to see Eli or the man following him first.

Elias stopped when he heard the faint voice. It sent a chill down his spine, but he stopped to listen for it again anyway. If he kept going, heard it again, and still wasn't sure of what it was, the sound would only frighten him more. If he figured out what it was coming from first, he'd know better what to do.

The Ethiopian relaxed at this next sentence, following his friend's voice. It took a while, and some backtracking, but eventually, he could just make out a dark figure up ahead. Eli set the egg baskets down carefully, padding up behind Marco. Once he was close enough, he wrapped his arms around the shorter boy, lifting him up into the air.

Marco squealed loudly as he was picked up, heart freezing until he realized that it was just Eli. "You were waiting to scare me out there! Jesus Christ, Eli!"

Eli chuckled, hugging Marco tightly before lifting him up and putting him on his shoulders. He knew his friend wasn't really that short, but it still felt like it. "Not exactly. I only got the idea once you said it."

Marco held onto Eli's head, purposely wrapping his arms around the Nigerian's eyes, nose and mouth. "Oh, yeah? Than I assume you were just bumbling around in the dark before you decided to scare me."

Marco yelped, grabbing tighter onto Eli's face. "Hey! Careful with the goods, jerk. And some chick in there said you'd meant to go to the kitchens, which happen to be in the opposite direction. I think you were lost."

"I agree. Me having to do all of the work. It sounds wonderful." He unclipped his lantern from his belt ad turned it on, blinking in the harshness of the bright light. Looking up at Marco, he grinned. "How nice it is to see your lovely face. Hold this for me please." Eli passed the lantern to Marco, picking up the baskets of eggs.

"The chickens are sweet," Elias replied simply as he walked up to one of the kitchen doors. He knocked on it with his foot and a moment later, a dark-haired lady opened it. Eli handed her the eggs, which she took, but she gave him and Marco a funny look. She had to admit that she'd never seen anything like this before. And the one on the shoulders even looked a little older than the one carrying him.
