The red haze grew more intense, threatening to obscure Ricardo's vision as he skidded to a stop. Meh oh if the beasts to attack first? He didn't know that he was casting curses, but he found himself launching killing magic at the animals near Vincent. Still, as one died, another replaced it.

A minute later, a great rumbling sound shook the cavern, causing dirt and stones to shake loose from the ceiling. A large presence lumbered from some gigantic side tunnel, unseen in the darkness. The space was filled with a deafening squeal, which quieted the rest of the beasts. The newcomer, much more enormous than her subordinates, fought her way through the swarm to get to Vincent. This wouldn't make much of a meal, but they could certainly use it to attract something bigger.

XXXVII.
Ricardo raised his wand, pointing it at the gigantic animal. "Avada Kedavra."

Everything went silent then. Slowly, the beast fell towards the floor of the cave. The others scrambled out of the way to avoid her massive bulk, which landed with a massive thud. When the dust settled, her subjects snuffled warily around her body and in her fur. Suddenly, the whole place was buzzing with anger. The animals swarmed again, not seeming to know what do do or where to go.

XXXVIII.
Ricardo pointed his wand at Vincent, words running furiously through his head. Levicorpus! If he could keep Vincent out of the reach of the animals, he could fly and get him.

Vincent's unconscious body floated above the teeming ocean of fur, hanging suspended in the air and unaware of the madness below it.

As the witch walked down the dark path, she began to hear eerie voices. They wavered clear and high, and she doubted that whatever was making those noises was human. The farther she walked, the more tired she became as the shock of the day caught up with her. I wish Venus were here, she thought pitifully. The voices of the dark shrieked back in return. And then she realized that her right hand was beginning to look blue.

XXXIX
Ricardo trembled, staring at Vincent. The haze was gone, leaving only fear and horror at how many Unforgivable Curses had left his wand. And now, he had to stay a half-crow-half-human hybrid long enough to save himself and Vincent. If this failed, they were both dead.
After a brief hesitation, Ricardo jumped forward, deformed wings flapping on his back. He only had enough time to grab tightly onto the Gryffindor before his body returned to normal and they began to plummet.

The creatures ran over the two, some trying to avoid stepping on them, others too crazed to notice the new additions to the frenzy. There were a few who happened upon the exit, eventually leading a river of bodies flowing out one of the tunnels. The thundering of paws took a few minutes to die down, leaving only scattered, trampled corpses and the mountain that was their former queen.

Ricardo twisted, amazed that he was still alive as he looked down at Vincent's body, wide-eyed. The searing pain of his entire body was unimportant, as long as Vincent was alright. "Wake up," he whispered softly, placing a hand on the side of the Gryffindor's face.

It took a few minutes, but Vincent came to with a moan. it was as if it was the silence that had woken him. He felt the warm hand on his face and jerked away. "W-what's going on?" He winced when his voice worsened the already-bad headache. "I can't see anything... Where am I?" he demanded. His arms and legs were sore, probably bruised, making it difficult to try to move.

Ricardo hesitated before speaking, remembering Vincent's rejection and withdrawing his arm completely. "You were kidnapped. By some animal... things. They're gone now, it's okay."

"Wait... Ricardo?" Vincent almost cried out in joy, which resulted in something more like a muffled whimper. He shifted back towards the sound of the voice, throwing his arms around the soft, warm thing he assumed was Ricardo.

Ricardo felt himself begin to relax, burying his face into Vincent's shoulder. Maybe, just maybe, after so long of seeing horrible things, he was in some sort of place of hope. Or even better, maybe he was in the real world. "Do you feel okay? Are you badly hurt?"

"No, I'm okay," he mumbled, voice muffled by Ricardo's robes. "Just a headache and some bruises, I think." Vincent sighed, glad that the Gryffindor was here with him, even if he wasn't sure how. "The only thing I remember is following this thing into the woods, and then something knocked me over. I think I hit my head on something when I fell."

"Let's get out of this forest already," Ricardo sighed. "If we can even find our way out of this place. It's like a labyrinth."

"I bet... This is underground, right? And you said it was a group of animals that took me down here? Then this is a burrow. Like a rabbit warren. There should be a tunnel larger than the rest. If that doesn't take you straight to the surface, then it should lead you to one that does. At least, that's how it is with most burrowing animals."

"I don't know..." Vincent let go of Ricardo and rose on wobbly legs. It hurt, but yes, he could walk. He voiced this confirmation then fell silent, trying to pick up any sort of draft that might indicate a tunnel leading to the surface.

Ricardo reached out to put his hand on Vincent's shoulder, before deciding on just crossing his arms. He already thinks you fancy him. Just... leave it alone. I can't be all creepy and possessive. "Alright, let's go through this tunnel first. I think I came through that one."
