"The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. " H.P. Lovecraft
The opposite of our last Pin-Post, where worlds were riddled with perfection, now there is fear. In this second event, your characters have entered a labyrinth that represents their darkest demons, where the most raw and potent of human emotions is the only law, and your greatest enemy... Is you.
Universe Notes: - The only way to escape the labyrinth is reaching the very center.
- All labyrinths are connected at certain points. Be creative with the reasons why. For example, a shared fear.
- You may roleplay fake versions of your own characters in someone else's fear maze.
- You must reach 50 posts to earn the Demon Pin.
- Have fun, be creative! Any rules of the universe not listed here, you decide. This is not just a character development, but world-building excercise, so it is important to create the rules of the universe and remain consistent with them.
- Don't be afraid to be over the top with your character's fears.

I
All that Jack could remember was the running.
Well, not really running. It was more of a fast hobble, as fast as he could manage with a cane held in sweaty hands and only an old, broken foot prosthetic to help him balance. I have t find the team, I have to find the team, I have to find the team, I have to find the team... He repeated the words to himself like a mantra. There was no room for any other thought. Not while his muscles ached and his lungs felt as if they were on fire. This was worse that physical therapy, worse than the days after the first few surgeries. Maybe it was because a new feeling was added, an ice-cold rush in the pit of his stomach that made his breathing hitch and his cane fall from trembling hand every few moments.
Fear was with him this time.

Her seeking spells weren't working. This place, somewhere dark and twisting and obviously a trap, was more powerful than any magic the witch held in her fingertips. She couldn't find Venus, let alone a way out of this place. Yet still, the guard pursued. And she could tell that they knew things beyond even her activities in the underground. They knew every solitary infraction she'd made. Worse, they knew- I am going to die, we'll both die. Despite her usual assembly of charms and wards against this very emotion, fear surged through her and turned her mind into a blank white sheet. So she ran forward.

Lauren was starting to panic.
She couldn't remember arriving in this place, and she couldn't say just how long she'd been there already, but it was dark, and damp, and cold. And of course, her powers weren't helping with that in the slightest. She stopped, trying to remember some embarrassing or happy memory in a futile attempt to raise the temperature around her, but the motive behind it was too deep-set in her mind for it to have and effect, and she only succeeded in making it plummet further.
She wrapped her arms around her torso, holding back a choked sob and struggling to breathe for fear. She was completely alone in this place, and there didn't seem to be any obvious way out. Just an endless maze of cold, stone walls.

Philip sat on the cold, stony ground, knees drawn to his chest. He stared into space, shaking uncontrollably. He'd been here for hours and still hadn't been able to find any sort of help. In this strange, foreign city with winding roads and back alleyways, there didn't seem to be anyone who spoke his language. Night was coming on fast. The looming buildings cast long shadows over the verdant alley he was sitting in. The whole thing was lined with flowers ans orther lush plants. But the houses still seemed to grow ever closer as the darkness continued to encroach. Suddenly, Philip felt like he couldn't breathe, like he was trappes. Well, at least there were horses everywhere.

Wide-eyed and breathing hard, Jack backed into a shadowy alley, allowing himself to sink to the damp, smelly ground. It was too much. The physical strain was too much. He needed to stop, he needed to rest, but if he did... they would catch up with him. All was silent for a moment. The cold of the empty city chilled him to the bone. He looked around, wondering if there was anyone else here, or if they had all been turned. The moon hung pale and grim in the sky, accenting the streets in dim white every time a street lamp flickered and went out. All at once, groans began to echo through the empty metropolis. Feet shifting across the ground in large numbers filled Jack's ears, making him feel colder than any winter. He probably would have vomited, had he had any food in his stomach. Have to find the team, have to find the team...

His breathing quickened as he watched the walls, which seemed to move closer and closer, limiting the amount of space to move. Philip's chest tightened with fear and he gripped at his own hair, head between his knees as he waited to get crushed. Eventually, it was too much for him to handle. He had to move. He stumbled trying to stand and run, but eventually escaped the alley, ending up in a pleasant, but unfamiliar square. It was softy lit by yellow streetlamps and lined with a few horse carriages and cafés. This didn't seem right. He could've sworn this place was different when he first ducked into that alleyway.

The sound of voices cut through the thick air. Lauren stood, hands curling into fists. The voices were raised at a pitch that would suggest they were teenage girls, however, and she frowned. Slowly, she made her way in the general direction of the noise, keeping her footfall as quiet as possible.
"Show us, Em!"
Lauren's eyes widened as she rounded the corner and laid eyes on the group of girls. She knew who they were. And she knew exactly what was going to happen next. Her heart threatened to beat out of her chest, but still she stood, frozen by the rush of fear that had suddenly overcome her.

They were getting closer. The groaning and shuffling was getting louder. Jack curled up into a ball, shoulders shaking. He was too shocked to sob, only shivering and trembling in silence. Around the corner, the first few rotting bodies appeared, moaning loudly. It was Phillip and Nando, their flesh disgustingly rotted hanging from old, dry bones. Following directly behind them were the grossly reanimated bodies of Lauren, Victoire, and Maya. They let out rattling hisses through the few teeth that were left. Jack closed his eyes tightly, tears starting to trickle from his eyes.

Victoire was getting tired of straining. The ropes digging into her wrists felt like they were tightening, drawing closer with each pull. She was vaguely aware of the trickle of blood down her hand. But she couldn't stop trying to free herself. Not as long as someone was screaming on the other side of that door. She knew deep down that the ropes would only really release when it ceased, but she wouldn't welcome it. Not when she could've helped. She would never truly be free with the ghost of somebody she could have saved breathing down her neck. The ropes holding her against the stone stung, but if enduring meant she could get through the door, she was going to endure it.

Philip wandered over to one of the horses absent-mindedly, gazing at each of the shops. The lights inside were on, but there didn't seem to be any activity within. In fact, there didn't seem to be anybody anywhere. He fidgeted nervously. This was wrong. This was all wrong. At least this space wasn't as closed-off... Philip reached up to stroke the horse's nose as he watched for any signs of life along the cobbled streets that branched off from the square. He recoiled when he felt his fingers brush something odd. It wasn't the soft velvety fur he'd expected. Philip backed away, turning to the animal. Its eyes were glassy and black, staring into nowhere and its body was completely still, poised perfectly. Gingerly, Philip reached out to touch the horse's nose again. It was frigid and hard. Unnatural. It's fake... But, all the other horses in the city. I thought... They seemed alive... He ran then, despite knowing he'd probably just get more lost. Behind him, the rattle of a carriage and the clopping of horse hooves followed. Philip risked a glance back and slowed to a stop out of confusion. The fake horse wasn't chasing him. There wasn't even anything behind him. Maybe he was just hearing things.

"Alright, alright. One sec." A second girl spoke. She sounded moderately frustrated, but it was just an act. She was enjoying every second of the attention.
There was a pause. Lauren could hear her heart thudding painfully in both ears; the air had suddenly gone very warm. And then there was a chorus of laughter.
"Well it looks like Lucky Lauren isn't really lucky at all under all that clothing," one voice screeched, and once again the girls' laughter filled the air.
"Jesus, how much padding does she wear?" More cackling.
Lauren could feel the abject shame shining on her cheeks; the sensation was quickly creeping up to her ears and down her throat, lapping at each collar bone. Their voices brough back the disappointment on her mother's face, and the sheer disgust on her father's. And of course the horror her friends had received her with. She slid to her knees, looking away from the girls and hugging herself tighter.

After a few moments, Jack opened his eyes, his breathing shallow. He felt to rotting touch, no sparingly toothed bite on his arm. He was somewhere different now. It was... his school. He was seated on the ice-cold floor of the janitor's locker, a place that he had become well-used to occupying. The hacker felt his heart rate slow. Maybe I'm safe now.

"So, what, Mark sent the photos to you just like that?"
"No, obviously Will was going through his camera roll and found them, and then he sent them to Akib, who sent them to Sabrina, who sent them to me."
Lauren wished she could shut the voices out. But they bounced around in her head, each in quick succession of the next and each louder and more terrible. She squeezed her eyes shut, burying her face in her shoulder until suddenly, the voices stopped. Letting out a whimper, she relaxed her grip a little on her bare arms, noting that her fingers had left behind white blotches where they had been pressing against her skin. Even as she watched they turned dark and ugly. And then a masculine voice interrupted the silence.
"Lauren."

When the clopping died down, Philip took the moment to survey his surroundings. The road we was on was wide, and yellow-lit. The light from the lamps melted into the inky black of the starless sky. Just like the rest of the city, it was disturbingly eerie. Of to the side, a large building, colosseum-like, stood. Next to the entrance, a torn banner could be seen. Upon closer inspection, it carried a painting of a bull. A bull ring?
Philip's thoughts were interrupted by a low hum that filled the air. The sound went on for a couple seconds before rising in pitch to a metallic creak and disappearing. Philip shivered. Whatever this was, there wasn't any escaping from it. He jumped when the noise sounded again and bolted down a side road, hoping that he might be able to get further from the source of the groaning.

"Lauren"
"No," she said quietly, using her hands to shuffle away from the source of the voice.
"Babe..."
"No, no, no, you're not real," she cried, voice rising in pitch. Yet out of the shadows he stepped. He was only a year older, and ruggedly handsome. A football player. Popular. But he had betrayed her trust, and he was the reason for her soiled reputation and a lifetime of humiliation. Never again, she had told herself after she'd ended it, but his charm... Her mum had once said he could charm the back legs off a donkey, whatever that meant. It wasn't until after the photos were spread that the realisation hit her. She was so stupid.

Jack looked down at himself, starting in surprise. He was only wearing his swim trunks, his chest and legs exposed. More importantly, the large burn scars and ragged, odd-looking stumps of his arm and foot were exposed. The very thought of anyone seeing him made his heart race. Still, he didn't hear anyone outside of the door... maybe he could go out quickly and get some clothes before anyone could see. Shakily, the cripple used the doorknob to drag himself to his feet, stumbling forward and accidentally allowing the door to swing open.
This would not have been so terrible a situation, had the door not somehow led him in the middle of the school auditorium, where the entire student body was seated. Jack could feel the burning gaze of every eye trailing over his scarring, ending at the brutally misshapen stumps.
The first few laughs rung across the stage, slapping him across the face.

Lauren could still hear the words she had shouted at him when she found out. She had turned up at his house, completely bare of makeup with her hair hanging loose around her face.
"Why?"
He hadn't been able to answer. Of course he hadn't. And he'd remained silent as she turned and ran, back to her home where the police were waiting for her. It was a criminal offence, they had said. Her being underage and all. Two months later, her parents made her move school. She removed every online trace of herself and started again.

Ricardo clenched his fists tightly, looking around the empty Gryffindor common room. Today was the day. He'd tell Vincent how he felt, he'd get rejected, and life would go on. Would he get rejected? He didn't know. Fear and nerves coiled tightly like snakes around his heart. His palms were sweaty. Did he look okay? He hoped he looked okay. Bianca said that he looked fine. Even so, the Gryffindor couldn't stand but to look in a nearby mirror every few seconds to see his own nervous-looking expression.

When she gathered the courage to look up, Mark had gone. It was silent again. Shaking, and not from her own powers this time, Lauren struggled to her feet. She tugged her shirt sleeve back up to cover her shoulder, all too conscious of the cold air against her skin. She was silly to fear her past; she knew that. But it didn't make it any less real.
