What would you do without me? Philip signed jokingly, elbowing Jack. By the way, you should sleep after this. Being called a mother hen peeved him a bit, though he supposed it was true enough. The Canadian thought back to his life at home and how he took it upon himself to look after his younger sister. Well, that just about proved it... But even so, was worrying and looking after a family member or friend weird? He'd never thought of himself as overprotective. Maybe he was and just didn't realize.

"I..." Jack glanced at his computer screen. Phil was completely right, he supposed. Any steady flow of work he had gotten into had been interrupted the moment he lifted his eyes from the screen to look at his teammate. I honestly can't even remember what I was doing. I guess it can wait. "Y-yeah. I'll take a shower first, though."

I promise you'll be able to get back to work later, he signed, sighing softly. Honestly, it was like that boy was married to his computer. Philip knew Jack's coding business was often important stuff, but that didn't make him any less concerned. At least he wasn't being stubborn about it. The Canadian stood, grabbing the plate and, making a face at the only one or two bites that had been taken, put it in the fridge.

Jack tracked Phil's movements with sleepy eyes, hiding a yawn behind his hand. "Mind pushing me to my room? Don't think my arm can handle pushing myself around after typing for so long. My fingers feel all cramped."

Philip nodded, admittedly a bit amused by Jack's situation. Grabbing ahold of the wheelchair's handles, he pulled Jack away from the table and pushed him towards his room. After a small struggle to get into the bedroom, Philip left the wheelchair in front of the open bathroom door. Do you want me to wait for you? he asked cautiously, hands hesitating over the first couple words.

"No, no, I'll be fine," Jack mumbled, a faint heat crawling up his neck. "All-- all this stuff is specially built for me. And my new foot prosthetic is arriving tomorrow! They're also talking about fitting me for an arm, which I'm certainly..." he shifted in his seat, unable to meet Phil's eyes. "Certainly more hesitant about."

That's so cool! Philip responded enthusiastically, grinning. He shook Jack's shoulder lightly in his excitement for him. But don't worry about it too much, the Canadian signed in a gentler manner. It's still your choice whether or not you want the arm. He paused for a moment before warmly placing a scarred hand on top of the head of dirty blond hair sitting just above his waist.

"I'll try not to worry," Jack mumbled, shifting in his seat. "But after so long adjusting to doing everything with one arm... and then that trial period of actually adjusting to having another limb, let alone using it... I wouldn't be able to work as well as I do now, I don't think, and actually being somewhat useful to this team depends on my constant productivity..."

The Candian squatted down next to the wheelchair, tapping the armest to get the cripple's attention. Jack, no one's forcing you to get the prosthetic, Philip reminded him. And if you do, you can still type with one hand while you get used to things. And you are very useful. Always. He reinforced his words with a look that bore the mildest hint of annoyance.

Jack just shrugged. It was better not to push this subject with Phil; he always seemed to get annoyed with him when he talked about how useless being a cripple on the team felt. How it always made him feel like his position was just some sort of compensation, some sort of gift made by S.H.I.E.L.D. out of pity because of who his parents were. He was a hacker, sure, and that allowed him access to find anything and everything on the people they fought; but sometimes watching and guiding the team through security cameras and staying safe inside the base while they put their lives on the line made Jack feel as if he were in recovery from the accident all over again.

With a sigh, Philip stood. Knowing what he'd said to Jack hadn't gotten through to him, he rolled his eyes. Fine. Go ahead and sulk. I don't care, he signed. Would it kill Jack to just listen to him for once? The Canadian knew his friend was sensitive about all this, but it was like he never allowed himself to feel like a valid member of the team.

Jack felt heat flush to his face, feeling a sting of hurt at his words before clenching his fist, struggling to keep his words steady as he wheeled away from Phillip. "If you don't care, then," he said slowly. "Get out. And don't come in here again."

Philip grabbed onto a wheelchair handle before Jack could head into the bathroom. Jack, stop, he signed, hands shaking slightly. Out of frustration or hurt, he couldn't tell. You... You know I care. But I hate when you get like this. You don't...listen. You could at least talk about it with me, but you never do. By now, he could only hope Jack understood half of his signing with how much his hands were trembling. His heart followed a similar pattern and Philip sighed heavily in an attempt to calm his nervous temper.

Jack snorted. "Last time we tried to talk about it, it ended as badly as this did," he snapped, past trying to keep his voice cold and relaxed. "And if you care so much, why'd you say that you don't? If you want to talk about it so badly, why'd you just shut me down so fast right now?"

Jack, please... he responded, staring hard at the boy. If one looked close enough, they might find just a hint of pleading in his gaze. I said things in a rush. Just tell me what's wrong. Why are you so upset? Please... Philip's signing had become quick and a bit choppy as he'd moved in front of the wheelchair. Looking at Jack, he couldn't decide whether he wanted to hug him till he shut up or punch him in the face. Either might've worked.

Jack regarded him for a few seconds before looking away hand furiously running through his hair. Why was he so upset? It wasn't as if Philip's attention never mattered to him, but it had never been such a concern to him before. Or perhaps it had been, and he hadn't noticed until that moment.

Philip huffed. Jack... I'm sorry if I was insensitive, he signed impatiently. But it bugs me when you get all moody and don't explain anything. The Canadian lowered himself to sit cross-legged in front of the wheelchair. I'm not leaving until we talk this out. Philip crossed his arms over his chest. If this took the rest of the evening, then so be it. He could wait.
