Basch noticed her gaze's brief flicker towards the Russe boy, but said nothing, merely turning blue-green eyes towards his wife. Nicolas had joined Gabi, clutching her hand tightly. "Gabi. What do you think? Should we take her home for a bit?"

"Yes, for a few days at least. I think she needs to recover from today, and we can look into getting her whatever help or medication she needs," Gabi answered, giving her daughter a small smile when she had finished speaking, which Cora returned.

Nicolas's cane scraped against the ground as he slowly approached Cora's bedside, tears dripping down his face. "Cora..."

Cora felt herself become teary again, looking at her brother, and attempted to wipe her already tear-stained face. "Nic, Nic I'm sorry..."

"I'm just glad you're okay," he whispered softly, tears falling from his eyes. "I... If you died, I'd... I can't even think about it."

"I was going to leave a note, or something, for you, you know," Cora muttered. "But I didn't end up doing it. I'm not completely sure why. Maybe I thought it would be easier if I was just gone."

"Y-yeah." Cora felt her mouth go dry. "I didn't realise, how much this would really affect you..."

Nicolas said nothing, only taking off his shades and wrapping his sister in a hug.

Cora shuddered, hugging him back. She couldn't remember the last time she had hugged her brother. "I'm not gonna leave you guys. Not yet, at least. I promise."

Basch nodded silently, turning to the matron. His voice had gone from fatherly gentleness to hard and businesslike. "We're taking her back to Switzerland for the time being. Have her schoolwork sent to our residence and her professors notified. You, Russe. Make sure her friends know she's home. Do not divulge many details about the situation, do you understand me?"
Giovanni nodded stiffly, glancing at Cora one more time before leaving the room. Only after he had walked a few paces did he realize that Cora had been placed in the same cot as doomed Bianca. The thought made him shiver.

Cora watched Giovanni go, nervously wondering what he would tell the others. "I guess that's that, then," she mumbled. It was suddenly weird, to be going home, during the school year. What would people think of her? "You know, maybe I..."

Basch turned to her with a sigh. "It's what's best for your mental health. You can stay for a few weeks or a few months, whichever you'd like."

Cora went to say something, but stopped. "That's fine, then," she said a moment later instead. But the thoughts of what other students could start rumours about didn't sit very well with her at all.

"We'll be out by morning, then. I'll have the school activate a furnace to send us home by Floo powder. Gabi, I'd like to talk to you outside. Alone."

Gabi looked vaguely surprised, but nodded. "Okay." She took one last worried glance at both her children before stepping outside and waiting for Basch.

Only when he was by his wife did Basch allow himself to break down, straight-backed posture falling into a pained slouch. "What are we going to do?" He asked softly. "We can't let Cora fall into this again. What if she relapses? What if she actually..."

Gabi attempted a smile. "It'll be okay. I'm sure, if she comes home and we're able to help her... she should be alright." She shifted nervously. "If she does relapse, though... I really don't know."

"They say deep depression can be genetic," the banker mumbled anxiously. "Oh, God, what if I did this to her? What if this is my fault?"

"Hey." Gabi took her husband's hands. "Even if it is genetic, it's not your fault. You wouldn't wish this on your own child. Nobody would. What we can do now is do our best to help her get through this, right?" Although her words were calm, she wasn't the same inside. I can't believe I let it get to this point! How could I not know, I'm her own mother... why didn't I see this sooner, how could I let her get to the point of attempting suicide...
