Giovanni was making his way through the castle grounds, whistling quietly, when he heard the sound of sobbing my the lake. And... Cora? He could see a soaked, vomiting figure at the shore, not thinking twice before beginning to run towards it. Oh, God, no.

Cora tried to concentrate on getting up again, using her arms to push herself up once more, which resulted in her lungs burning even worse and her stomach emptying out more water. Her head felt fuzzy; she wondered if she really had succeeded and this was some strange post-death experience, but her screaming body told her otherwise. A few seconds later, Cora was vaguely aware of the sound of someone coming towards her, and wondered if she could come up with some sort of reasonable excuse in eight seconds.

Giovanni carefully stepped around the puddles of water and vomit, carefully taking Cora by the arm. "It's okay," he murmured, putting a hand on her hand. "You're okay now."

"Giovanni?" she mumbled, feeling slightly embarrassed that it was someone she knew. "I- I can explain..." I don't remember talking hurting my throat like this. Urgh.

"No explanations yet," he said firmly, helping Cora to her feet. "We need to get you to the infirmary."

Cora wondered if she should deny needing to go, but she couldn't deny that the amount of water she had breathed in and swallowed probably wasn't very good for her. "... alright," she agreed quietly. "But I don't know what I'm going to tell the matron."

"We can tell her that you were flying your broomstick over the lake and fell," Giovanni murmured, bustling across the grounds. "If she even asks. I doubt that she'll want to do much other an make sure you're okay."

"Yeah... yeah, okay." Cora felt vaguely detached, and hoped the matron would fix her. "...I made a mistake. I really, really did."

Giovanni sighed, turning away from her. "We can talk about... how and why later. No use getting hung up on it right now, I don't think." They had reached the castle, and he began to make his way towards the stairs to the infirmary.

Cora followed him, only nodding in response. Walking to the infirmary felt like a lifetime to her, and when they finally got there, all she wanted to door was collapse on the floor right outside the door and sleep forever.

Giovanni exchanged some brief, clipped words with the matron, who took Cora's arm and led her to a cot.

Cora followed the matron and fell into the cot, relieved slightly. "Thanks," she managed to mumble.

The matron offered a weak smile, handing her a bottle of some transparent liquid and a bucket. "This will help you flush any remaining water and anything dangerous you could have taken in from your system. Try to keep all of the vomit in the bucket, please."

Cora sighed. "You got it." She took the bottle and downed the liquid fairly quickly, waiting for the effects settle in afterwards, not too excited for what was to come.

"Wait- you're getting my family here?" Cora felt seriously ill at the thought, although whatever she just drank probably had something to do with the severity.

"...right." Cora finally got to the point where she had to grab the bucket, but she could barely focus on anything beyond that point. This is it. It's all over for me now. I'll have to tell them everything. I'm a mess, Merlin, do they have to see me like this...

Giovanni closed his eyes, leaning back against a wall. Elizabeth's suicide had been enough of a blow. He couldn't let the same happen to Cora. There had to be something that he could do to avoid her getting hurt.

When she finally felt it was all over, Cora put the bucket down on the floor and drew her knees to her chest, holding them and staring ahead blankly. When the matron had mentioned her family... she hadn't thought about them. What would have happened to them if she had gone through with it... Cora didn't want to know.
