The Great Lake (alternatively known as the Black Lake) is a large body of water located to the south of the castle. It is about half a mile in diameter and the Hogwarts plumbing network drains into it.

Giovanni sat at the edge of the lake, sides heaving. What have I done? I practically outed Ricardo to everyone in Hogwarts right now! I can;t believe this. What even came over me?! I'm a terrible friend and a worse person.

The tension in the Great Hall had been thicker than during the toss up at the start of a Quidditch match, pretty much stifling. He needed to breathe, and what better way than to just turn the way he had come and fly a lap or two around the castle grounds? Of course, Xander hadn't been expecting to see anyone else outside, especially in the cold so it came as a surprise when he spotted a figure beside the lake. A soft thud marked his landing as he slipped his broom back into a rest position in his hand.
"Sandwich God?"

"Oh..." A strange feeling akin to excitement yet not really excitement bubbled in his chest at the news and it didn't take a genius to figure that it wasn't exactly appropriate. "You know, I heard them mention something about Veritaserum earlier." He shrugged. "If you really were under the influence of a truth serum, I'm positive they'll all understand."

He looked thoughtful for a brief moment before shaking his head. "No idea but I can always help you look if you want, I'm not going to be flying for a while now anyway since Spitfyre needs some maintenance. He's probably looking for whoever spiked your drink."

Leo sat by the oak, throwing rocks into the water. It had been two days since they had taken Tessa to St Mungos, and since then a solemn atmosphere had settled about the place; winter frost tipped the grass, and crept down the lakeside where it covered every pebble, and the Owlery steps had been enchanted to repel ice in preparation for the incoming weather. The Hufflepuff sniffed, feeling the cold air rest against his cheeks, and glanced down at his gloved hands. The party was that night, although it hardly felt like it.

Nicolas scraped his cane around on the ground, gritting his teeth as his feet slid around on the frozen ground. Swearing in German, he slid his cane around, moving rocks and trying to find the edge of the lake.
