Eduard, after waiting a good ten minutes (curse Estonian internet), saw the new message. He started a video chat, blinking in surprise when he saw the video camera on his laptop show his face. He hadn't shaved in quite some time, and he had grown a scruffy blonde beard. His hair was slightly rumpled from recently waking and his eyes had dark circles under them. Then he remembered that the last time he had seen those girls-- or, the last time they had seen him-- was when he was eighteen or nineteen. Now he was twenty-two.

"Well, thank you for saying I look horrible," he said with raised eyebrows and a small smile. "Way to greet a friend after, what-- three years? But yes, I'm fine. The surgery was okay, so I should be good." Whoa. My accent's even worse than it used to be. I haven't spoken English in a while.
