Ishmael fumbled with straps as the horse snorted and pawed at the ground. They cursed softly in Hebrew, trying to keep the animal from moving around and fidgeting so much. Letting out a breath, they reached over and put a hand on the horse's nose. They'd had to load up donkeys before, but all these straps and buckles confused them.

"We can split up to find them," Santiago decided. "I'll check around outside, you check inside the house. They couldn't have gone very far."

"Okay," Sita nodded, making her way through the door into the kitchen. "Should we meet back in here so we can fill them in together?"

"Yes. We'd better not tell them anything until we're all together. That way, we can all be filled in the same way. Perhaps one of them saw something interesting as well." With that, Santiago was out the door. There was a distinct, crisp chill in the air; a strange contrast from the Argentine summer that he had just left. He shivered, rubbing his hands up and down the sensitive goosebumps of his arms.

Ishmael took a deep breath, watching the horse as they stepped up. It took a bit of effort and frantic scrambling when their leg didn't make it all the way over. But the end result was worth it. The horse stood there patiently, tail swishing as Ishmael stared at its mane in mild shock.

Santiago shoved his hands in his pockets, idly walking around. He definitely didn't know Ishmael or the territory enough to know where they were likely to go, so he resolved himself to simply wandering around in silence. The cold air was beginning to feel somewhat pleasant on his face, nipping at the tip of his nose and cheeks. The rolling hills and lush grass, gently dripping morning dew, reminded him of his earlier dreamscapes-- natural, fresh, before they became elegant marble citadels and palaces.

Ishmael immediately began regretting their decision as soon as they were in the saddle. "What was I thinking? I don't know how to ride a horse!" They felt the large animal move beneath them and a brief wave of panic washed over them. But getting down looked quite a bit harder... Well, I'm already up here. Might as well try. Ishmael ran through what they knew about horseback riding from the movies and clutched the reins a bit tighter, eventually clucking their tongue. The horse started forward and a rush of adrenaline shot through them. It seemed to know where it was going already, so the need for steering was minimal. Heading out through the fence, Ishmael directed the horse towards the large open fields to the side of the house as best as they knew how, grinning stupidly.

Santiago stopped for a moment, frowning. He wasn't very far from the front of the house, still mesmerized by the beautiful (if rustic) setting. The sound of the clopping of hooves snapped him out of it, and now he was glancing around for the source of it. Do we even have horses here? Or maybe it's a neighbor visiting. The thought made his stomach clench. He wasn't knowledgeable enough of their cover story to make a convincing pass at belonging in this place.

The muffled sound of footsteps in the thick grass and the movement of the horse beneath them were comforting. Ishmael almost wondered why they'd been so nervous. The horse seemed to know they weren't an experienced rider and took control, leading them closer to the side of the house, where the grass was lusher and more tasty.

Santiago froze for a moment before deciding to go to the side of the house. After all, if anyone was visiting, they'd come around the front. Silently going over scripts and lines in his head in case of confrontation, he pushed past the tall grass around the edge of the farmhouse.

Ishmael jumped at the sight of Santiago, causing the gray mare to lift her head and take a few steps in alarm. "Geez! Wear a bell or something," they said, gripping the reins a bit tighter.

Santiago turned at the sound of his voice, looking like he was about to jump out of his skin. Quickly, he composed himself with a light cough. "...Ishmael. I was looking for you."

"Oh really? Huh. So how was breakfast?" they asked with a snort, trying to guide the horse closer to Santiago. "Did you get it before it got cold?"

"I haven't eaten yet, actually. I saw something in the house, actually, that Sita and I wanted to talk to you two about. We were so excited that we forgot to eat."

Ishmael sighed. "Were you? Would you have come if I called you to the table like I was your mother?"

"Don't be like that, Ishmael," Santiago huffed, rolling his eyes. "I forget to eat most of the time anyways. Besides, what we have to tell you is important. It might let us figure out why we're here."

"Yeah, okay. But I just got on the horse. Isn't she pretty?" As soon as the words had left their mouth, they sighed. "I just... Never mind." Why do I even bother saying anything half the time? It just ends up being something stupid or annoying.

Santiago reached out to brush his fingertips along her mane for a moment, smiling. "Quite. I didn't know that you knew how to ride horseback."

"I don't," they answered simply. "I'm going off of what I see in movies. It was probably impulsive and dumb, I know. But..." Ishmael trailed off, shrugging.

"I'm impressed. These horses must be very used to inexperienced riders, then." Santiago glanced up at Ishamel for a moment before directing his gaze back down to the horse. "But we really should get inside. I don't want to keep the girls waiting."
