Santiago felt around for some sort of light switch, finding it and flicking it on. Small lights around the gently sloping roof lit the stairs down to the near-end, leaving whatever was beyond them cast in shadow. His curiosity was definitely piqued. "I think I'll go down there to see. If you want to, you can stay up here. If I'm not back in ten minutes, get help."

Sita couldn't argue with that. She almost felt guilty for letting him go alone, but one look into the darkness sent a thousand unpleasant suggestions to her head. "I'll wait up at the top of the stairs. Shout up to me so that I know you're okay."

"I'll whistle on my way down so you know I'm alright," Santiago responded, giving her a small smile. He did nothing to betray the wild pounding of his heart as he slowly went down the stairs, whistling the same harp tune he had played earlier.

Sita crouched down, her legs protesting slightly at the movement. She had lost sight of him in the darkness fairly soon, and was glad of the reassuring whistle. The tune had a similar effect on her as before, slowing her heart rate to an almost normal rhythm and stilling the butterflies in her stomach. "Can you see anything at all?" She called down.

"It's a big room, but... Hold on, I'm feeling around for a light switch." There were a few shuffling movements, and then a click. Silence, before his voice floated upstairs in a small whisper. "You have to see this."

She blinked, a little surprised by the sudden glow beneath her. "What is it?" Came her response as she shuffled towards the top step, eventually starting downwards towards him.

Santiago stared around the room, amazed. A direct contrast to the rustic, worn feel of the rest of the house, this room was all shiny and chrome-- large computers, state-of-the-art digital maps, a large table with four chairs and a screen built into the top. "What do you think it's all for?"

Sita stopped at the nearest computer, bending over to study it carefully. "Your guess is as good as mine," she spoke at last. "I think we should get the other two... What did you say their names were?"

"Ishmael and Elle," he responded. "Yes, they definitely have to see this. We need to go find them." With that, he turned on his heel, quickly scaling the steps.

She followed him up, mind whirling. Sita wasn't especially intellectual - a fact she wasn't scared to admit - and everything happening at once was confusing her greatly. She hoped one of the others could make something from it all.

Santiago's mind was quickly calculating, connecting, concluding. Their current predicament was like having to put together a puzzle without the reference image on the box; he could see bits and pieces of the image separately, but had no idea of the big picture. We're sent to a house in the middle of nowhere, with an entire fake backstory already created for us, and we have the dream-hopping ability in common. They've-- whoever they is-- have given us state-of-the-art technology. But why? Obviously we have a job to do here, but what could it possibly be?

Sita glanced across at him as they exited the room. He seemed deep in thought, and part of her didn't want to disturb him so she waited until they were near the rooms again to ask the inevitable question. "What are you thinking?"

Santiago turned around, slightly surprised by her voice. He had almost forgotten that she was there in his thought. "I'm wondering how all of this is related. We have some sort of job to do here, that's obvious enough, but what? And how will dream-hops incorporate into it?"

She frowned, posing another question. It was one that had been bothering her since receiving the letter. "Do you have any control over this... What did you call it, dream hopping?"

Santiago hesitated before answering. "I... I can control it, for the most part. Sometimes I do end up in a random dream, especially if it is a person I am curious about on some level. But it is true that I have spent much of my time since the ability appeared in me trying to study dreams, control it and harness it. You could say that it was my greatest goal, to control my powers."

"I never thought about trying to control it," she said quietly. "I didn't even know it wasn't normal until I heard my parents talk about their dreams. And I suppose I always linked it to my religion as well - I thought it was a way of contact, or warning, so it never even crossed my mind that I might be able to purposefully end up in someone's head like that."

"I think that the pattern to a random dream hop is just... Wanting," Santiago said softly. "But not so much for personal gain, either. It's very... Emotional, I guess. A subconscious display of emotion through power. Hopping on purpose... It's very difficult to master. It took me years of trying."

Sita frowned, feeling more than a little foolish for attributing the dreams to her religion now. "Santiago, do you believe in a higher power?" She asked, hoping that the question wasn't too personal for him.

Santiago glanced at her, studying her in silence for a beat before speaking. "Yes, I do. I am a Catholic, like my family... Though I am not so conservative as them."

She nodded, relieved that he had answered; for a second she had been certain that she was being too forward. "Did you not think the dreams were sent from your God?" Perhaps he was more logically minded than her. He seemed so, after all.
