"Not at all. I'll be in my room until you're ready." Santiago gave her a small, but sincere, smile. This girl, Sita, seemed pleasant enough; a good addition to their newly formed group. Better than to be living with a bunch of disagreeable people. The slipped inside his room, sitting by the harp and plucking at a few strings.

The corners of her mouth turned upwards as she heard a subtle melody start through the wall. Was that a harp? Presumably everybody else had rooms suited to their interests then, she mused, eyes falling again over her easel as she passed it to open the wardrobe. Whoever had brought them here clearly knew a lot about them. Sita changed quickly, throwing on a pair of jeans and a loose-fitting shirt before exiting her room again. One of the things she had noticed was the temperature of the place - it was warm enough to dress for spring or summer, for which she was grateful.

Santiago closed his eyes, quietly moving his body along with the music that his hands were producing. For the first time in months, he realized how much playing the harp really relaxed him. It helped his thoughts flow, silently going over and accustoming himself with the situation. In any other variation of this, I'd be panicking. But these people know about the dreams. I have to find out more.

She didn't want to knock on his door and disturb his playing, so instead she waited outside. There was something calming about the tune, and for a few moments she had forgotten how worried she was about her current situation.

Santiago ended the song with a low, sweet-sounding chord, watching the strings vibrate for a few seconds before leaving the room. "I apologize if I kept you waiting, Sita."

"No, no," she shook her head. "You play very well. I've never met anyone who can play the harp before."

"Thank you very much," he murmured with a small smile. Coming from a family of highly proficient musicians, it had been a while since he had received praise that was not paired with critique. "I am very glad that these people gave me a harp. They seem very aware of what our interests are."

She nodded, thinking back to the painting set in her room. It had been a while since she'd picked up a paintbrush, and she felt almost ashamed of how she'd abandoned her interest so easily. "Yes, they do. Well, I suppose we'd better start looking around."

"I haven't seen anything past the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. We should go down the hall from here, I think."

Elle was indeed sitting on the couch, trying to make sense of it all. She had pulled the coffee table up in front of her, and was inspecting a plethora of file folders that were spread out on it. She frowned, flipping through a Manila envelope. "So, they keep a file cabinet full of empty pages here," she said, thinking aloud. "I get having paper, but I had to dig through the office closet for five minutes before I could get the drawer into a position where I could open it. Would they really go through all of that trouble to hide simple printer paper? And organize it into files? No, they definitely wouldn't. No matter how weird this already is, nobody is that pretentious." She sighed, frustrated, holding a folder over her face and closing her eyes. "I need a heat lamp and some black light. I'm going to go look again." Elle pushed the table out from the couch and stood up. She shuffled the blank pages and set the stack down on the table again, before stalking purposefully into the hallway towards the office.

"Okay," Sita agreed, pursing her lips. "Lead the way." Part of her was glad for an excuse to explore. It might give them some clues as to where exactly they were.

Ishmael sighed as they set the pan of shakshouka on the table along with four plates. After a look into living room and the surrounding area revealed that no one was around, they huffed and headed towards the front door. "Fine," Ishmael muttered under their breath. "They can serve themselves breakfast." They yanked open the door and walked around the house, breathing in the fresh air. It was definitely a bit chillier than Jerusalem, especially for this time of year, but the scenery was breathtaking. Ishmael had never seen so many mountains, even if they were in the distance. They eventually got around to the backside of the house and stopped short. There was a large fenced field, but the horses inside were what caught their attention. Ishmael approached the fence, causing a horse to look up and come closer to investigate. "They're like big donkeys..."

Santiago made his way down the hall, eyes widening at the photos on the walls. Expertly edited photos: them shaking hands with an old-looking farmer, them smiling and waving in the fields, at least three photos with the four posing with a strange family at Christmas, the four of them shaking hands with the farmer as a deed was handed over. All of them, he knew, were ripped from specific photos taken of him over the years. They told a story that could only be seen as a lie by those who were-- or rather, weren't-- there. "This is... disturbing. Whoever brought us here is serious."

Sita felt a chill pass down her spine, stopping to study one of the photographs. "They look very real," she said, voice small. "Why would somebody go to all this trouble? And how did they find out so much about us?" A horrible thought occurred to her. "You don't think we've been bugged, do you?" The very idea of a hidden camera in her room made her feel physically sick.

Santiago took a deep, shuddering breath. Stay calm. Someone has to stay calm, it might as well be you. "We can sweep the house later. I think... I think that these are for some sort of cover story. In case any of the locals gets too nosy. And if they have been studying us..." He turned to her, shaking his head. "What better way to get to know someone than through their dreams?"

Unsurprisingly, that didn't make her feel much better. "Santiago, I've had some really weird dreams before. If they have any idea of what I'm like, it's going to be tainted by the recurring nightmare of a bouncy castle full of inflatable totem poles. And that's not even the worst of it." It wasn't that she particularly cared about the opinion their mystery benefactor had of her, but she felt that, given their current situation, it certainly wouldn't hurt to at least come across as a sane person to begin with.

Despite the situation, Santiago managed a small smile. "Sane or not, they seem to think that we fit their standards to be here. Look, there's a room at the end of the hall. Do you want to go in?"

Sita flashed him a sheepish smile. "Could you go first?" She didn't mind admitting that she was scared out of her wits, in fact she was almost glad to let him know. He seemed to be a lot calmer than she felt.

Santiago paused, before nodding. The fear churning in his stomach reminded him of his grandmother's old washing machine, a rarity in Argentina, and the way that clothes would tumble and toss inside. It's just a room, he scoffed at himself as he placed a firm hand on the door. And Sita doesn't need you being scared, too. He pushed it open, walking inside slowly.
The room was completely bare and extremely small. It smelled strongly of rotting wood, which made Santiago take a step back. The only feature, and the most notable one, was a set of stairs leading down into the dark of some sort of basement.

She exhaled once affirming that the room was empty. On the next breath in, she felt her face screw up in response to the strong smell of rot; the musky scent reminded her of the dead tree at the end of her garden, especially after rainfall. Sita noticed the stairs last, as Santiago moved fully info the room. The simple sight of them made her stomach clench again. "Do we have to go down there?"
