Fernando put his phone away and walked over to a large circle table. It was the only empty one, and he sat down. "Ok, guys," he said into his comm. "I got us a table right outside the cafeteria. I'm waiting for you guys."

Maya followed, happy that she had finally been able to do something kind-of-productive today. Her headaches had been awful. She wasn't used to going to school; she hadn't been in years. There were just too many people. But now... she was older and stronger...

Philip looked down at his food. So far today, every teacher in each of his classes had asked him to do the cliche "stand up and introduce yourself" thing and three times—three—he'd had to go up to the board and explain everything in writing. Even after all that, one of the teachers had still called on him to answer a question before he'd realized his mistake. It had taken the class a whole minute to settle down.

Lauren nodded, relieved. "You know, I really like this place. The teachers seem very nice, don't they? And it's a lot prettier than my old school. My nan said that it looked like a prison, but I don't think it was all that bad really." She continued to chat animatedly as they reached the door of the cafeteria, and she wedged it open with her shoe to navigate through it. "Here we are! And look, I think that's them over there."
