Judas tensed for a moment, but relaxed at her touch, a pleasant sort of warmth rising to his face. "I... I can try. To laugh more and be more of myself and all that. If it'll make you happy."

"Don't do it because it makes me happy! Do it because it makes you happy," she sighed, pulling him closer. Her head tells her she should let go and pull away, but Judas is warm and she's cold. "But for the record, I love your laugh."

"Oh," he said softly, suddenly feeling bashful. "T-thank you."

Soon enough, Victoria rolled away from him and stood, brushing off any residual snow. I don't know what I was thinking... He probably thinks I'm clingy enough as it is. "Let's go inside. I'm freezing." She extended a hand to help him up. "I can make some tea."

"When did we buy tea?" He took her hand, standing in the deep snow. I wonder why she let go all of a sudden.

"I bought some a while ago," she explained shortly, leading him to the door of the shop and opening it for him.

Judas stepped inside, feeling the heat charms that his friend had rigged in the shop instantly melt the snow on his body. He wrinkled his nose as water began to drip from his hair. "I'm going to go clean up. You start the tea, and we can switch off when I'm out."

"Sounds like a plan," she replied, hanging her coat and kicking off her boots. She padded off to the kitchen, pouring water into the kettle.

Judas dug around by his mattress for a decent change of clothes and a towel. After drying himself off and pulling on the new clothes, he entered the kitchen. "Alright. I'll take care of things here."

"Thank you. The water's just about ready to boil, I think," she said, brushing past him on the way to her room. She changed from her worn-out dress into a used skirt and plain shirtwaist, clothes she'd bought on impulse but needed anyway. Of course, everything else in the shop had been so expensive it made her stomach sick, so she was still stuck with hand-me-downs, looking poor. She made her way back to the kitchen, barefooted now that she'd abandoned her wet socks. "Is it ready?" Victoria asked, peering around the corner of the doorframe.

"I... think so? Let's say it is," Judas mumbled, pouring the tea into two mugs. "That's a nice skirt, when did you get it?"

"Oh, um... I think last week. And it's not nice, really. It was just one of the only things I could afford. I look like an old maid." She reached for the kettle to move it from the stove before grabbing her mug and stepping back.

"I don't know, I like it," he said with a shrug. "Anyway, clothes aren't really everything. Especially with our work. As long as it's functional."

"Oh, I know," she said, nodding. "I was just hoping it might let me fit in when I'm out at the market or someplace else, which it doesn't, but that's alright." Victoria paused to take a sip, grateful for the fragrant liquid's warmth as it hit her stomach.

"You'll be fine. Fashion is overrated anyway." Judas shrugged, taking a sip from his mug. He didn't usually have tea; in fact, it was only when Victoria arrived that he'd actually started drinking the stuff. I wonder what else she changed around here without my noticing.

"It's not about fashion," she found herself snapping. "It's about not looking dirt poor. There're enough rumors about us already, and I don't need anymore piled on me!"

Judas narrowed his eyes, but maintained his composure. "Rumors? What rumors?"

"There're a few, circulating around the people I used to know in the black market. I hear them whispered on the streets. People say things to me sometimes," she told him, quieting down. Victoria sighed heavily. "The most popular one, it seems, is that I only left because you pay well for my 'services'."

"Your services as my apprentice is what I hope they mean to say," Judas growled, turning away from her to serve himself more tea. "At any rate, if you really want me to expand your paycheck--"

"Of course they don't mean as your apprentice!" she hissed, wondering if Judas was pretending to not know, or if he was just that clueless. "What else could they mean?"
