Welcome to Camelot CDXIII, often referred to as New Camelot, an industrial city caught in the throes of the fast-progressing Industrial Revolution. The location? According to urban legend and city lore, right in the middle of the place the ancient kingdom of Camelot used to be.
True to their medieval heritage, the ancient magic that has existed since the times of Merlin has been made completely illegal. Witchcraft, Sorcery, and Alchemy are punishable by death. The many underground Magic Rights Movements have been quickly snuffed out and their leaders made into examples. The black market businesses dealing in potion supplies and wands, Seer services and healing charms have thrived in the dark of the underground.
Will you live by the laws prohibiting magic or disregard them?

Name: Judas Carreiro Age: 18 Appearance: Tall and stocky. Thick, curly black hair, tan skin, light brown eyes. Other: An immigrant from the Colonies. Serious, focused, stoic, and reliable, Judas prefers to watch others rather than make any move towards meeting them. He was sent to New Camelot by his father so that he could send money back home, which he earns by creating automata. They are incredibly functional and lifelike, a combination of machinery and magic. However, he is accustomed to the loose magical suppression work of the Colonies and can be careless with hiding his abilities. Judas often pretends to be an individualist, but is extremely loyal to those he cares about and does what he can to protect them. Secretly a hopeless romantic at heart. Specializes in alchemy and the mechanization of magic. His familiar is a Boxer named Jacob, who makes up in emotional response where he is lacking.

Name: Thea Regaldi Age: 17 Appearance: Of medium height. Dark brown hair worn in a braid, with tan skin and dark nearly-black eyes. Other: Born into witchcraft, she practices secretly and has ties in the underground, which is the source of most of her income. Focuses mainly on easily-concealable jar magic, familiar spells, and observance charms. Uses spells to watch for incoming magic practicers who will need to know the way of the city. Personality/the rest to be developed.

Name: Victoria Harlow Age: 17 Appearance: Of average height. Her hair is a sort of dirty auburn, cut short for practicality. Freckled olive skin and brown eyes. Is inseparable from a worn-out navy blue scarf and often wears a long coat and a men's cap to blend in with the crowds. Other: A native of the city, she knows her way around and is well acquainted with black market distributors. Lives as a street rat, sometimes working odd jobs here and there, or dabbling in the selling of magical items herself. She's too proud to be a beggar, and refuses help of any kind. She was born an accident, the product of a one-night stand between her once-great father and a traveling fortune-teller from the south of Europe. She would've had a life of luxury, her father being a famous British inventor, but he was jailed when Victoria was young for the possession and use of magic in his inventions. She's since had to fend for herself, denying the offer to live with other relatives for the reason of wanting to stay in the city. She's stubborn and is accustomed to knowing exactly how to do things, a perfect example of independence, which has gotten her into trouble more than once. Despite knowing what her father had done, she wishes to follow in his footsteps and become an inventor herself, a high hope for someone of her age and class.

(Gonna try something new y'all I'll try to keep with this style in this roleplay, but if I get sick of it I'll just go back to the normal one we always use)
Your name is Judas and you are the most exhausted you've been in a long time. You just got off a boat that took you home after a nice vacation back at your parents' place. The ride back was certainly less enjoyable. The ship passed through some stormy seas, leaving you seasick and sleepless through the long voyage. Now you're just trying to get home as you make your way through the streets of New Camelot. God, you feel dead. You familiar, Jacob, is at your heels, barking every so often to keep you from keeling over in the middle of the street. While you find the way home, he actually pays attention to your surroundings, which is fine by your book. Jacob is more than capable of taking care of any trouble you may run into.

Behind Judas trailed a cat- a classic familiar, and a somewhat obvious one, but shielded with charms. Eyes luminous, the cat sniffed the air, nearly ready to report back to her waiting witch. She mewed quizzically.

You are now the dog.
Your name is Jacob and you're wide awake. You don't even know how you managed to sleep on that floating death trap, but here you are. You hear a weird sound behind you. Meowing, you think, and whatever made the noise reeks of magic. Turning away from your sleepy master for a few moments, you look around for the source of the mew. It makes you tense and uncomfortable, that's for sure, and your skin crawl under black fur.

The cat stared at Jacob. He smelled of magic. She raised her tail, meowing again. Her witch would arrive soon, she could sense it.

You stare back at the cat, wagging your tail for a moment before communing in the language all familiars share. "Why are you lurking around us? Nothing to see here. Just a tired kid. Where's your witch? Or warlock. Or alchemist. Or gender-neutral magical person. You know what I mean." You hope she knows what you mean. It's very like you to run your mouth. Half the time you don't even know what you're saying.

The cat sat down, curling her tail. "This place is not a good one for those who practice magic. You and your magician could be dead within a week if you don't learn the streets fast. It's a dangerous place."

Victoria ducks into an alleyway and pulls her scarf up to hide her face. The policemen looking for her run past. Their dog stops for a moment, staring into the smoggy space, but Victoria is long gone, hidden among the shadows of a hollow in the brick wall. She lets out a breath. The alley reeks of urine and smoke, but she needed a quick getaway. She can't stay here for long. The noses of those policemen are almost as good as their hound's. But not good enough. Victoria slips away, dodging between buildings and ducking into crowds of afternoon shoppers. Ladies eyeing the newest dresses and corsets, men smoking and arguing. Victoria smiles smugly at the small vial in her palm, filled with a golden liquid. Her client is just a few blocks over. She can make it easily.

You sigh, shaking your head as if you're trying to get water out of your ear. You don't know why you do that. It kind of feels nice, though. "We're gone for a week and everyone thinks we're new here. We know that, kitty. We kind of live here. And our heads are still attached to our bodies, so..." You snort a bit. "Maybe you should be telling that to your witch; I imagine you two live here like us?"

"Sorry, I didn't recognize your smell." The cat dipped her head. "We live a few blocks down." She raised her head. "I think I'll have to tell her… now." Footsteps sounded around the corner.

You return to being the tired kid.
You turn around, resisting the urge to rub at your eyes (what are you, seven?) as you see someone coming up behind you. In the space of a few minutes, you almost fell asleep on your feet, your familiar started talking to a cat, and what is possibly a witch is coming up to you. You swear under your breath. You can't leave that dog alone for two seconds.

"Venus!" The cat, wearing her smug cat-ish grin, stood and walked to the side of the approaching witch. "Hello. You've met Venus, then. Are you new to the city?" She glared at the cat; Venus wasn't supposed to come close anyone she suspected where anyone could see. And anyway, the witch doubted that these two were new, she thought she recognized them.

You shake your head, shoving your hands into your pockets. You kind of wish that you could have this conversation under better conditions... like one where your limbs don't feel like lead. Still, you manage to speak. "No. We live down the street."
For a moment, you are the dog again. You almost roll your eyes. He's doing the thing again. The thing where he doesn't really talk much and instead looks like he wants to crawl back into his shop and tinker with wires and not talk to anyone. You wish you could fill into the conversation, but a familiar's conversation is pretty much restricted to partner and other familiars.

"Okay, sorry. Venus is a funny little cat sometimes," she whispered conspiratorially. Venus's cat-grin grew. "We can leave now, if you'd like. You look… busy." "Tired," said Venus. "They look veeeery tired."

Victoria runs down the street to the corner her client had told her to meet. He isn't there. Of course. Victoria groans. Why can't anyone in this damn city keep a promise? Though, she expects nothing less from an outsider. She remembers that he gave her the address of his shop. Maybe he's there instead. Maybe he forgot, or got caught up in work. Either way, not showing up is unforgivable. She'll have to raise the price for shipping. Luckily, the venue isn't far. Victoria hurries to find it and peers into the small window. He isn't there either. The shop is dark. She curses and stuffs the vial into her pocket. This guy from the colonies had better be ready to pay a hefty price.

"We just returned from a long trip. We should get some rest before engaging anyone in conversation," you respond curtly, turning to go. If that cat follows me around i swear...
You're Jacob again, and you sigh. "Tell your witch that she can meet us up at Carrerio Mechanics tomorrow. It's a little place on the East side of the city. Also, his name is Judas. And that he really needs some human company for once." You pause for a moment before turning around, following Judas as he trudges through the streets.

"Of course. Maybe another time." Venus nodded. "Carrerio Mechanics. I'll tell her." Her ears twitched. "See you around."
