"This way." Coral motioned for them to follow, leading the way to a staricase made of wooden planks. Each still had white or blue paint, though most of it was chipped and cracked. The banisters were made of driftwood. "I got the boards from old shipwrecks out on the beach," she commented in a quiet voice, shrugging. Neither Carnelian nor Tanzanite probably cared much.

"No thank you," Coral said quickly, patting the railing. "It's fine the way it is." She led them down a hallway, pointing out the spare room to Tanzanite before stopping a few steps later. Coral reached up and pulled open a trapdoor in the cieling, revealing a folding ladder that extended to the floor. "This is the way up to the attic. Please, make yourself at home."

Carnelian climbed the ladder, glancing around the attic before pulling herself up. It was small, but cozy, with a few boxes pushed up the side, connected by stringy spiderwebs. There was a small, circular window one one side, letting light pool in a golden puddle on the floor. "Nice."

"Coming!" she called, ducking out and sliding down the ladder. She hurried downstairs, looking around for Morganite before heading into the temple. "What's the matter?"

Morganite was standing over the pool, hyperventilating and counting and recounting the bubbles bunched on the ceiling. "Coral, " she breathed, "We're missing one. I don't know which one it is, but there are supposed to be 15 here, and there are only 14. Something got out. What if... What if it's in the city now? It could be terrorizing the humans! We have to find it!"

"Alright, let's do this." Morganite practically ran for the door, half expecting screams of terror to come floating up from the city. From the base, it looked okay though. "I don't think anything is happening yet, but we should hurry. Whatever it is, we've fought it before. Still though, it could have mutated, and we have to figure out what let it escape."

Coral nodded, reaching behind her to retrieve her khopesh. "Hopefully it won't take too long. I'm really not in the mood for another mission today." Neither listening nor looking helped to locate whatever monster was loose. How bothersome...

Morganite summoned her crossbow, gazing out at the city. "Let's start at the park and work our way down. That's where we find most of the monsters in the city, so maybe it would go back to where we bubbled it."

"That makes sense. The monsters always seem to like the park." Coral glanced back into the house. "Wait. Should we bring Carnelian and Tanzanite?" They could both use some extra help, but at the same time, she and Morganite already knew each other's habits and fighting styles. It might be easier to find the monster without having new gems to get used to.
