"I think we're late... oh, maybe not," Riley said, listening to the chatter.

Rita perched at the end of the wooden bridge, facing the clock tower courtyard. She turned a page of the book she was reading idly, not really focusing on the words long enough to read them. Half term had gone by too quickly for her liking, and it was fairly miserable having to return to lessons again.

Raegan wandered the grounds, brow furrowed in concentration as she focused on the sole contents of her hands. Two chicken bones stripped of their meat were wrapped neatly in a napkin and it was by the time that she had reached the bridge that she finally decided that maybe attempting divination through bones - especially the remains of her last meal - wasn't likely to provide her accurate results. Ever.

Rita glanced up, a frown creasing her forehead as she spotted the Gryffindor. She seemed intent on something in her hands... Were those bones? A little disturbed by this revelation, she closed the book in her lap and made to stand up, smoothing her skirt down around her legs.

She paused, feeling the eyes of another student shifting onto her in a less than pleasant manner and turning to face them, only to notice the girl's expression. "Is there an issue?" Raegan almost demanded, clutching the bones tighter self consciously because really, there wasn't exactly a reasonable excuse for her actions since by now, it was clear that maybe squinting your eyes at the remains of an avian wasn't how bone reading was supposed to work.

The Slytherin let out a nervous laugh, running her fingers through her hair. "Uh, you're walking about the grounds looking at chicken bones. I couldn't help but wonder why." She scrutinised the girl, certain that she knew her. Oh. She was the Seer in her year. In fact, they had shared lessons together at some point. Not that Rita had ever bothered to speak to her - she preferred the company of the girls in her own house, if she was honest. They had more in common.

That's a good question. Raegan frowned, glancing down at the bones before shifting her gaze back to the Slytherin in front of her, Something-or-another Chapman she seemed to recall. "I guess I've been thinking about branching out a little? Bone reading is all the rage in Germany now so I thought it couldn't hurt."

Her eyes lit up a little at the Seer's confession and she hugged her book to her chest, all thoughts of hostility forgotten. "Okay, what can you see, then?" She had always been curious about divination, although had very little competence for it herself and was prone to bouts of scepticism where readings were concerned.

"H-huh? What can I see?" Raegan glanced away, mentally kicking herself. She had no idea what she was doing with the damn chicken bones but she was hardly going to reveal that fact to her. "Ah-" She mimicked an expression of concentration as she racked her brain for something to say. "-ha. Something about... An angry professor, a missed deadline and a follow up detention."

She looked momentarily stunned, eyes widening owlishly. "Oh, you're right! My essay- I..." Rita stopped and composed herself. She was coming across as a fool, when rather a large part of her wanted to dislike this girl. "But that could apply to most sixth years, couldn't it?"

"Potentially," she mused almost airily, wrapping the bones again in a second napkin and stuffing them in her bag for later disposal. "Well I'm not sure about you but I certainly make an effort to actually pass my classes. We are covering NEWT level material after all and anyone who thinks that they can treat it like OWL year should reconsider their life choices."

She pulled a face, immediately defensive of the Gryffindor's snooty tone. "So, you're the Seer everyone talks about," she spoke in an attempt to change the subject. "Do you just use bones, or do you have a crystal ball hidden in your cloak as well? Surely a truly gifted Seer should be able to use anything to make her predictions?"

Raegan frowned, furrowing her brow. The tarot cards had never felt heavier in her pocket but she was reluctant to take them out, not for the Slytherin in front of her anyway. "What are you implying? I'll have you know that the bones were a first time thing, but-" Her lip curled. "- If I can make an accurate prediction the first time I use a particular medium, wouldn't it suggest that some people out there are too... Ah, dull?"

The Slytherin raised a finely shaped eyebrow, a smirk gracing her features. She's bluffing. "You don't know how to read chicken bones at all, do you?" She probed. She felt somewhat satisfied by this; perhaps all of the Seer's predictions were just vague guesses. It certainly made her feel better about her own achievements in any case.

She huffed. "And you do? I'd love to see you try." They were just chicken bones after all, did anyone really expect to see solid results from staring at the remains of a roasted fowl..? That and there was a nagging voice in the back of her mind telling her that you were probably supposed to throw them instead of inspecting the grooves and indents.

"I don't claim to be able to read the future," she said airily, waving her hand in dismissal of the Gryffindor's challenge. "I have other areas in which I can excel. Divination isn't one of them, clearly."

"Clearly." She agreed with a brief nod of neither understanding nor acceptance. "I suspect that time management isn't one either."

Her brow furrowed as she searched for a sarcastic response. Finding none, she just crossed her arms again. "Well... Time management isn't everything. There are more important qualities."

She smiled pleasantly. "Oh of course there are, such being able to follow through with instructions given to you by a figure of authority like a future employer or perhaps even a professor."

This prompted a scowl from the Slytherin, and she struggled to find the right words to compete with the statement. Defeated, she huffed. "Shouldn't you be off telling someone's future, rather than harassing me?"
