Alain stood, trying to look as regal as possible, despite wearing dungeon rags and being locked away in a cell. While the ice in his eyes had slightly melted, his expression remained guarded. "I am grateful for your visit, my Lady. However, there is little that can be done for the situation. Even by a woman of your stature."

"Forgive me, your Highness, but I think there is much I can do for you. I have full access to the castle in this time of emergency, as do the other nobles. Am I right in thinking that you suspect someone of your father's murder?" She stared back at him, unwavering in her address.

"There is a possibility," he said slowly, "That it might have been...." If I tell her, there's a higher chance I live. But then she might see Eliza in there... But... I can't let this chance slip by. Eliza is resourceful, she'd be able to hide or pose as a servant... right? "The advisor. He has always envied my father and my throne."

A flicker of surprise crossed her face but she suppressed it quickly. "That is certainly a possibility. Do you know at what time he is in his chambers?"

"There might be something in his chambers that could help in the trial. I will go and search them."

"Of course," she returned with a humble curtsy before gathering her skirt up in one hand again and turning down the corridor to head for the steps, a small smile appearing on her lips.

Amos cursed his luck under his breath as he heard the footsteps returning. In hindsight, he should have really found a better place to conceal himself whilst indulging in his nasty habit of eavesdropping but he had to admit, learning that the crown prince had been accused of murdering his own father was rather surprising. The conspiracy within the walls? Not so much. It was always the same and his situation would have been a lot more favourable had he not just minded his own business. Damn it all.

Jac paused as the light from her torch illuminated a dark figure ahead of her. She breathed out slowly, trying to compose herself as she fought to come up with some sort of excuse for being in the castle dungeons.

Ah, maybe he should just extinguish the torch light and 'make a run for it'? It would be a lot easier than formulating a plausible reason for being in the castle itself when he clearly had no business there, especially so far down. That actually sounded like a somewhat decent plan of action... Amos sighed, silently chanting in his mind as his eyes began to glow a bright gold before the entire area around them was cloaked in darkness.

The noblewoman took a sharp intake of breath as she was plunged into darkness. She fumbled to find the wall, standing against it as she waited for her eyes to adjust.

He took that as an opportunity to run, not caring whether he went about it in the quietest way possible or not as his footsteps echoed against the stone walls that surrounded him. But he soon found himself facing his next problem since the guards had long returned to their station after his previous distraction.

Blinking in the darkness, Jac managed to find a window and pushed it open. The light of the waning moon was enough to flood the corridor with a gaudy silver glow, and she headed after the footsteps, brow furrowed. What in Albion was going on?

Another explosion? Amos shook his head. No, the guards were suspicious enough from the last one. It was highly doubtful that they would all go trooping off after another loud noise since their last investigation had brought them to a dead end. As much as he enjoyed belittling others and playing them for fools, it wouldn't work twice on a castle guard... And the girl started following him... great. In a split second decision, he spun the way he had come from, grabbed the torch from the wall bracket and slipped on his best 'lost and somewhat confused' expression.

She gasped as the figure turned to face her, his features illuminated by the firelight. "Amos! But why are you here?"

He laughed sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand. "I came to visit an old friend but I got helplessly lost... None of the castle guards are being too helpful either."

"How in Albion did you manage to get into the Citadel in the first place?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. She found it hard to believe that he could just stroll in, especially in the time of emergency.

"The guards stationed at the front doors let me enter after they recognised me." He lied smoothly, making a mental note to alter their memories at a later date, especially before Jac could inquire further. "Of course, they were rather vague with directions so-" Amos gestured to himself. "Voila. Here I am."

"Who's this old friend you speak of anyway?" She asked, curious.
