Barrenfoot stretched out, a patch of sunlight peering through the mouth of the den and hitting him right in the shoulders. He closed his eyes, letting out a sigh of content. This was the life.

Roseflare quietly padded into the elders' den, trying not to disturb any sleeping cats. She had a collected a large amount of moss. "Want any of this for your nest?" she mewed to Barrenfoot.

Barrenfoot blinked warmly at the warrior. "Sure. Thank you, Roseflare." He got up, walking away from his nest a little stiffly so Roseflare could reach it. He sat a few paces away, glancing outside the den. "The days are starting to get colder," he remarked. "Hopefully prey won't be too scarce."

Barrenfoot settled down on ether ground, curling his tail around himself. "It snowed late that year," he recalled. "The kits were only a moon and a half old, they followed Ravenshadow around like ducklings. Spiderkit and Mistykit wouldn't stray outside the nursery walls, but Sparrowkit came out to see what all the white stuff was. A snowflake landed right on his nose, and he squeaked in surprise and ran back into the nursery behind Ravenshadow's legs. He wouldn't come out of the nursery for three days."

The elderly tabby nodded. "Sensible. Ravenshadow and I became mates practically rights fare we received our names, but we didn't have kits for a good few moons after that. Nothing wrong with waiting."

Barrenfoot glanced back at the other elders. "Not especially. Though Harepaw nearly got his ears clawed off when he tried to pull cranky over there's ticks off without mouse bile." He purred in amusement. "He's stubborn one. Ivyleaf has her paws full teaching him."

Barrenfoot shifted a bit. "Well, it can get a bit boring sometimes," he admitted. "But it's pretty relaxing, and it's nice to get the respect of the warriors. Plus, there's plenty of time to tell stories now."
