Santiago made his way over to the girl, studying her closely as he neared. She was small, probably much shorter than him and the others, but her wide shoulders and stature definitely gave her an older look. Seventeen, probably, he decided. That certainly fits the rest of our ages. I wonder if she's the last, or if there's someone else. He reached out a hand, tapping her on the shoulder lightly. "Miss?"

Sita almost jumped out of her skin at his touch, and let out a quiet yelp. Colour flooded her face moments later once she remembered where she was. "Oh! I'm sorry, you startled me." Her lips quirked into a sheepish smile. "Can I help you?"

"My friends and I, we were wondering if you were in the same situation as us," Santiago said politely, gesturing towards the other two nearby. "We were invited here by mysterious letters."
(GUYS GUYS what if the airport is actually a dream and they just wind up waking up in the cottage together? Like, the letters were real and laced with chloroform or something and they were put into an extended dream state)

(Oooh. I like that. And they could've been flown to Montana via a private plane instead. What if their employers could manipulate their dreams? Or at least implant dreams/false memories.)

Her brow furrowed and she hesitated, studying his expression carefully before drawing her own letter from inside her jacket. "You mean this, don't you? You're all like me." She had known of course that she wasn't alone; the letter made that quite clear. But what she hadn't expected was a couple of normal teenagers.

"Yes. We're trying to find out exactly what to do next, but..." Santiago frowned, looking around. Suddenly, the entire airport was empty, save for the four of them. Although the place had been quiet before, it was silent now; no staff or passengers bustling around. He stiffened, staring outside of the window. Even the plane that had been boarding moments before was only a metal husk-- even the pilots were gone.

Elle took a few steps back, stumbling out of the way of a wall, which was beginning to dissolve. The sky outside the window was beginning to change, rapidly going from night to the purplish hue of dawn. This whole situation, though out of context and strange now, was familiar. Why would this happen now? That would have to mean... She watched, eyes wide with horror as everything began to slowly turn to dust around them. "I think we're... we're waking up."

"Oy vey," Ishmael muttered under their breath. "Hey pustunpasnik! Tu mir a toiveh un bakumen dayn narish tshemodan!" they yelled at Santiago, shoving his suitcase towards him as the airport seemed to dissolve and fade away. "Na!" In only a few moments, the airport was gone and so were the others, replaced by blackness. Ishmael sat up quickly, blinking in the sunlight coming from the window. They rubbed their eyes and looked around, expecting to see the plain white walls of their bedroom. Instead, the walls were made of planks of wood and the room looked like it belonged to a log cabin like the ones they saw in movies. "A chorbn..."

Santiago felt himself falling for a moment, before finding himself sitting up in a bed and shaking. For a moment, he almost thought that he had woken up in his bedroom at the sight of a harp in the corner. But all around him were the crude wooden walls of a forest house. Scrambling back, he studied the room with wide eyes. It seemed to have been fine tuned to suit his interests-- the harp was there, with an elegant music stand; a large bookcase fully stocked with volumes stood against one wall; a small chess board sat on a low table beside a desk, which was laden with graph paper and pens and pencils; and a cork board sat above it, a small package of string and thumbtacks stapled on the bottom. Even the bedspread looked exactly like the one he had at home, but brand new. Santiago clutched the sheets under him, breathing labored as he slowly slipped out of the bed. The floor was cold under his feet, and felt oddly clean despite the woodsy setting. This place is designed to look old, but it's obviously never been lived in. Not really.

Ishmael stumbled out of the bed to inspect the room. Well, at least they still had the clothes they'd been wearing the day before and their suitcase. But then again, they were in a strange place and there was no sign of the others. The room itself was small, and the dark wooden planks that made up the walls gave it an even more cramped feeling. There was a dresser by the door and a simple bookshelf on the wall next to it with a few titles Ishmael didn't recognize. Otherwise, there wasn't much. On the nightstand, there were a couple candlesticks, a box of Shabbat candles, and even a new—albeit plain—yarmelkeh. Ishmael huffed, but chose not to bother with them. They left the bedroom, which led into a sort of living room, complete with old, floral printed sofas and a slightly outdated television set. There was a door to another room to the left of their door. The only other options were a couple hallways leading to rooms they couldn't quite see. The hallways made them vaguely afraid and uncomfortable, so Ishmael opened the other door instead. Might as well explore and look for the others, if they're here...
(Hey, do you guys mind if I make a floorplan of the house? I have some ideas for it.)

For a second, everything was blank. Elle's consciousness was reduced to a black expanse with a faint scent of lavender lingering. When she came to her senses, she stared up at the ceiling for a few moments. She was sure she was awake now, but the finished wooden boards were not anything like anywhere in the school- Except everything else was. The pair of ice skates slung over the closet door by the laces, the large mirror hanging across the wall, a world map with pushpins pressed carefully into it. They had her stuff right down to the vase of red tulips on Elle's bedside table and the lavender under her pillow. She stood slowly, treading cautiously on the floorboards. She was still wearing her school uniform, but her recreation clothes were hanging in the closet. Elle shivered. Whoever had put this together knew her- and well. She pushed open the door and slipped into the hallway, dead set on debunking the rest of the house.

Ishmael sighed, running a hand through their hair. "Santiago! Elle! Come on out, you putzes! You're not funny!" they called, trying not to sound desperate. Not fifteen minutes ago, they'd found the people they were supposed to be with, and now they've lost them again.

After Santiago had pulled on a shirt and made himself presentable, he opened his door, carefully treading out of the room. Ismael's voice was loud and clear in the stuffy silence of the log cabin. I guess that means that the others were definitely real. He reached out a hand, placing it firmly on the other's shoulder. "Relajate, chico, I'm right here."

Elle stepped out into the hallway, taking in the house's decor- the paintings on the wall were eerily similar to those of her school. "I'm here too, and I think we're all awake this time. Whoever brought us here... they must have put us in that dream. To transport us."

Ishmael jumped at Santiago's hand on their shoulder and whirled around, visibly relaxing at the sight of him. "Ei! Danken Got... Don't scare me like that!" They looked towards Elle, sighing. "I should've known something like this would happen."

"What do you guys think it was, then? And at what point?" Santiago crossed his arms to hide a small shiver that went down his spine. "Chloroform in the letters? Something in the plane food?" He still couldn't believe that he didn't notice that something was wrong. Even in the most detailed dreamscape, there were always key elements that weren't exactly correct and gave away the dream. And despite all of the care he took, the one time it mattered, he had been distracted. The very thought shamed him.

"The lavender," Elle murmured. "I think it was the lavender. Did you guys get lavender? Because when I was reading the letter, there was a sprigg of it in the envelope. I smelled it, and then rolled off the bed to go pack. I remember just lying there on the floor for a minute before I actually got up to do something. That would have been the perfect opportunity."

"I don't remember any lavender, but that doesn't mean there wasn't something else. I didn't check the envelope very thoroughly. But I remember feeling pretty dazed in the alleyway when I first opened it. Maybe it was just the heat or the running, but I wouldn't doubt that that was when I was sent into the dream," Ishmael said, flopping down in one of the old sofas.
