After a solid minute of falling, eyes closed tight and arms wrapped around Vincent, Ricardo raised his head, frowning. "Does this... have a bottom?"

"I'm not sure," Vincent replied, pressing his cheek against Ricardo's. His gaze shifted downwards and he was surprised to see a pinpoint of light. But that didn't necessarily mean they should get their hopes up.

"Yeah..." he murmured. It still seemed far away, but before he knew it, the light, soft and bright, was swallowing them up. A moment later, they were crashing through a canopy of thick foliage, branches and leaves whacking them until they reached the forest floor.

Ricardo landed with a crash, body wrapped around Vincent so that he could save him from most of the shock of impact. The landing was not by any means soft, and left the Gryffindor struggling to breathe.

Vincent's teeth clacked together, sending aching pain through his jaw. "Ugh... Ricardo, you okay?" he asked worriedly, rolling off of him and sitting him up. Vincent busied himself with brushing dirt from Ricardo's robes and picking leaves from his hair. "At least we're not dead..."

She'd thought just the dark had been awful, but it didn't even compare to this struggle against the ground itself. Her mind's eye saw nothing but this darkness, and unable to think, she acted on instinct, pushing at the waves of earth with her arm and instinctively casting destructive spells all around.
The witch screamed unintelligible curses until she had no energy to do even that. She was running on pure adrenaline, already completely exhausted by the long walk through whatever warped afterlife this was. Could she die twice? Was she dead at all? She had no answer for anything. Her arm and legs grew weak with the effort of what felt like treading in water, if water had the thickness of mud and wanted to kill you.

Vincent shook his head, studying Ricardo's face and sighing once it passed inspection. "I want to say it's the Forbidden Forest, but I'd prefer not to gain hope only to lose it if I'm wrong."

Shakily, the Gryffindor got to his feet, ignoring the intense nausea that made his legs shake in favor of staring at the treeline of the forest. However much it was doubling up and tumbling in his disoriented vision, the obvious was still apparent. "I can't see the castle."

"I mean, we could always be on the other side of the Forest, wherever that is... Either way, we're a long way from home." Noticing Ricardo's swaying, Vincent reached out a hand to the Gryffindor and drew him closer, holding him steady as he sat down with him.

Vincent nodded, gently and methodically rubbing Ricardo's back. "We should be able to find food and water relatively easily. I'm just going to hope we don't have to spend the rest of our lives in this place."

The witch cast the illusion of brightness, but it did nothing to help. Desperately, in the implausible hopes that they might help her, she tried making illusions of humans. Friends, acquaintances from the underground, even those she'd seen just once or twice on delivery runs. All that provided was the slight and nagging sense of forgetfulness that came with illusion work. She let loose a hoarse sob as her strength vanished and she was pulled under the churning dirt.
