Morganite grinned. "Crossbow. I couldn't carry something big like that, much less use it to slay monsters." She glanced over her shoulder, force of habit. "Speaking of monsters, it's awfully quiet here. Let's hope it stays that way."

"Too quiet," Carnelian mumbled. They remembered their days in the citadel of Homeworld. The silence in this Kindergarten felt like that small gap of silent right before a riot, that little second of utter shock when two prison gangs collided before the entire place imploded with fistfights. Only here, it was drawn-out, creating a perpetual state of tension that made the hairs on the back of their neck stand on end.

"Yeah..." Morganite shivered. "I'm gonna draw my bow now, just to be safe." She stepped back, glancing over her shoulder again before summoning the crossbow. The pink gem fumbled with the clamps, quickly strapping it to her wrist and adjusting the quiver of arrows that had materialized on her back. "I'd bet that if we found a monster it would be some kind of serpent or something. Nothing we haven't handled before, but still.... Creepy."

"What makes is creepier is that they used to be like us," Carnelian grunted, shifting their axe to rest on their shoulder. "Gems."

Morganite sucked in a breath, her eyes becoming distant for a fleeting second. I can't afford to think about that. New subject! New subject! "So, uh, do you think Coral and Tanzanite will be able to hear us screaming if we get attacked?" She asked abruptly. Nice.

"Probably. We're both loud, aren't we? I'm more concerned for them. They don't seem to have very strong voices, even for screaming."

"Hmmm. I guess that's right. Coral and I are usually together, so there's no need to scream otherwise. Let's just hope if there's going to be a monster that we got it."

"We'll probably be fine. Two of us against one monster. Usually we can take them, right? Unless it's a really big one..."

Morganite nodded, more to reassure herself than to acknowledge anything. "So, while we wander through this creepy old quarry awaiting a huge-and-possibly-aiming-to-kill-us monster's appearance, why don't you tell me about yourself? What kind of stuff do you like? What's your aesthetic?"

Carnelian thought for a moment. "I like fire. And fighting. And I like human music, and human instruments are really cool."

"I had a trumpet a while ago. Maybe a hundred years ago, maybe a little less. I lost it. But I like jazz. Not smooth jazz, the loud kind."

"Hmm, neat! I'll have to give that a listen!" Morganite opened her mouth as if to say something else, but not before there was a loud rumble in the distance. She gulped. "Do you want to bet on rockslide, monster, or both?"

"Probably both," Carnelian sighed, raising their battleaxe and scanning the horizon.

Morganite nocked an arrow, pointing the crossbow towards the ground and looking up to the source of the sound. "Okay, how do you want to do this? We could do one of us distracting and the other attacking, or try to lure whatever it is down the cliffs and hope it gets crushed. Do you have any specific strategies you like to use?"

"Strategy?" Carnelian snorted, grinning as the first signs of something huge began to appear over a large ridge. "Let's just jump in and have some fun!"

Morganite's eyes widened. Fun? Adrenaline does weird things to some people. "O-Okay!" She squeaked. "Who knows? Maybe the no-strategy strategy is a good one afterall-" The gem gasped suddenly, as a huge, dark blob came tumbling down the cliffside, a tangle of appendages reaching out to anchor itself to a rock. "A Spider! That's a new one!"

"I'm going for the legs!" Without hesitation and laughing loudly all the way, Carnelian ran towards the large spider, swinging their battleaxe.

"Uh, okay!" Morganite shouted over the ruckus, attempting to gain a vantage point and clear shot towards the body through the ensuing chaos. She maneuvered around the spider, pushing up against the rocky wall of the cliff. This touch-and-go method was new to her, and she was struggling to devise a plan for herself. She shot a few stray arrows into the abdomen of the spider, trying desperately to avoid flying legs.

Tanzanite sat cross-legged on the floor in the home, staring at a rock on the floor. It was a pinkish-purple colour, and seemed quite content where it was. Tanzanite did nothing except stare at it, occasionally mumbling something under her breath.
