Welcome to the Isle of Berk!

Berk is a diverse land, comprising mostly of a rocky terrain sprinkled with lots and lots of trees. As most islands in the Archipelago, the island is surrounded by high cliffs and jagged rock formations. It is bountiful, providing plenty of mining veins for the villagers, wood, crops, livestock, and of course... Dragons. Dragons are at the heart of the community and village life revolves almost entirely around them. Dragon Training is a necessity for young Vikings, even if they don't have one themselves yet, they need to know how to keep themselves safe from wild, uncontrollable dragons, and how to interact safely with tame dragons that inhabit the village.
The chief has total leadership of the Vikings, sometimes assisted by his/her right hand man or woman. The chief's family is regarded as royalty, although they could be usurped at any time if the chief is beaten in single combat. The eldest son or daughter in the chief's family is usually heir to the position.
The residents of Berk make up the main workforce, and the majority are dragon riders. All Vikings, with few exceptions, are trained between the ages of 13 and 16 in fighting and working with dragons. However, residents usually have jobs outside of their battle training, and many undertake smithing or handling to earn their keep.
