Jane followed the trail of silvery blood, spotting patches of it on brambles, or small puddles of it in the grass here and there. We must be getting close to it now... Jane prepared herself for the worst, but she still swallowed hard at the thought of the creature lying there, broken.

The unicorn's sides were heaving with labored breaths. Blood matted its soft coat around a large gash in its side, the whites of its eyes flashing as it stared ahead in panic.
