She shrugged, gingerly moving her legs to shrug off the bedsheets. "'s weird. There're fuzzy bits."

"This past week, 'specially yesterday. The doctor asked me what I ate, 'n I couldn't tell him. He said it was normal though." Carefully, she manoeuvred her feet off the edge of the bed, her toes wiggling until they found the floor.

Be careful walking. I can't exactly help you if you decide to keel over.

"'m fine," she protested mildly, easing her weight onto her feet. The movement was slow and laboured; her limbs barely felt like her own. "Just a bit clumsy."

You look kind of like a puppet with half of it's strings cut off. Maybe you should call up mum or dad to help you.

She leant against the bedside table and looked down at the book, brow furrowing. "Stop worrying, Lizzie. 'm only going to the mirror."

You sure you want to see that? Your scar isn't very... pretty at this stage.

"'m gonna have to see it at some point, aren't I?" She responded, picking up the book and cradling it in her arms as she made her way unsteadily across the room towards her dressing table.

Just... put some pillows nearby in case you fall or stumble. Wouldn't want you joining me, now would we?

Tessa frowned. "Gallows humour. Really?" She hadn't known that Elizabeth even did humour, although somehow it didn't surprise her that she had an affinity for the morbid kind. In fact, she had almost expected... Her thought process was cut off as she caught sight of herself in the mirror. "Oh," she said softly, rooted to the spot.

Look, it'll look better soon, I'm sure! The words appeared scrawled, hastily written. You'll be fine. and your hair is already starting to grow back. See? It'll be alright!

She didn't see the writing for a long time, gaze fixed on her reflection. The incision like was hideous; it stretched in a rough 'C' shape from just above her hairline to behind her left ear. The skin was puckered and held together with thick, black sutures. Tessa leant forwards against the dressing table, placing the book down with a heavy sigh. Her eyes skimmed over the page, barely registering what Elizabeth had written.

Come on, it's not too bad. It'll heal, it's a surgical scar.

Tessa exhaled, briefly closing her eyes and nodding. "Hair'll cover it. You're right." It could always be worse.

Once she got past the initial disgust, Tessa felt some degree of fascination with the incision. "I can't believe they jus' opened my head up. 's weird, isn't it?"

How else would they get the tumor out? You must really be disoriented by all those hospital drugs...

She rolled her eyes. "Says the talking book. What I meant was that it's strange how no wizard's come up with a way of getting rid of tumours."

The wizard world's concept of surgery is barely past a medieval idea. The magical world in general has hardly changed between the times of Godric Gryffindor and now, while Muggles have developed technology to do all sorts of things. It's kind of sad, really. St. Mungo's hardly has any patients anymore, and they wonder why.
