"Well, you're certainly old enough to become a full Viking, and I've heard good enough reports from your superiors." He shrugged. "If you believe you're ready, I could set your final assessment."

He smirked. "Very well. A mother Thunderdrum's nest has been found at Black Heart Bay. Your job is to retrieve an egg and bring it back to the village."

"She should be," he nodded. "Either way, you have preparation time. Make sure to fit your saddle correctly."

He snorted. "Kill a Thunderdrum? Good luck. If it were me, I'd wait until she's out to find the eggs. Anyway, you can find the wax in the library, and you may want to research a few things too."

"You have twenty four hours," he told her. "You'll be fine, don't worry."

Rikard laughed. "Like I'm going to believe that. I was terrified too."

His hand drifted up to his lower lip where the scar started, and he passed the motion off as wiping his mouth on his sleeve. "There was a Woden's nightmare out at sea that was causing trouble with Viking ships. I had to bring back a tooth."

"I don't remember much," he lied easily. "There was a lot of blood, not all of it mine."

"The Outsiders we found are on the other side of the island," he told her, not letting her know he had planned it that way. "You should be okay."
