In a matter of minutes the young Chief was ready and he climbed into his saddle effortlessly, bow slung over his shoulder. Astra hummed happily as she settled against his neck, her tiny claws gripping the fabric of his shirt.
"Is everyone ready?" Rikard called out, repeating the question in Dragonese for good measure.

Evalda hastily swung the saddle over Brynhilde, who quickly settled into it, sensing the trainee's haste. Quickly, Evalda scrambled onto the saddle, straightening her helmet with one hand. "Ready."

Rikard nodded briskly and uttered a command in Dragonese. Ismael raised his head and let forth a spurt of flames before leaping into the air. His giant wings unfolded and then both dragon and rider were flying.

"Well Astor," Kaia murmured to him at Rikard's signal. "This is what you've been waiting for, let's go." She tightened her position on the great beast as he shot up into the air after the Chief, unaffected by the mass of weapons strapped to his rider's back.

Evalda gritted her teeth. "Ready, Brynhilde? Let's go." The Stinger shot off, shouldering the familiar weight of her rider, and her trusty (and only) weapon, an old battleaxe.

Rikard flew just below cover of the clouds, laughimg to himself as Astra shivered and burrowed into the hollow behind his clavicle.
"S-slow down, it's far too cold," she grumbled into his ear, and he applied a little pressure to Ismael's delicate neck scales to guide the beast downwards slightly. He surveyed the surroundings carefully, comparing them to the map. If his sources were correct, the herd of sheep were on the other side of the valley. It would be bestr to round them from behind, leading them through the hills and then they could be easily cut off from that direction.

Evalda peered through the fog, trying not to lose sight of Astor and Astra's tails as they glided through the clouds. She could hear a small grumble from her dragon as they flew.
"We shouldn't have gone. Not right after I had some thorns mercilessly pulled from my hide!" "What was I supposed to do? It was a golden opportunity," Evalda huffed, rolling her eyes. "We have the same ambitions. And if you and I can't survive this, how will we ever be able to hold up against Rikard?"

After a good ten minutes of silent flying, Rikard uttered a command and his Windwalker drew to a halt in midair, the occasional wingbeat keeping them both suspended.
"Gather round, everyone," he called to the hunting party, shrugging the bow from his shoulder.

Brynhilde hovered nearby, her rider unstrapping the battleaxe and staring at Rikard with rapt attention.

"Okay, listen up. We're going to approach the herd from behind that hill, rounding them into the valley. Kaia, you and the Vikings-in-training will wait for them there and then lead the hunt. Remember to only kill as many as you can eat; this herd is quite a large one if my sources are correct, and it would be wise to let them breed to support Berk in the future. Clean kills, too. We can't expect people to eat mangled meat, can we?" He smirked slightly, glancing over the trainees. "And just a quick reminder that anyone who fails to follow these orders will be on farming and sewage duty for the next month."

Evalda stewed silently, eyes narrowing slightly under the shadow of her helmet. Easy for you to say. Apparently you had cushy private training under Sigurd the Great, of all people! You never had any duties, sewage or otherwise! Brynhilde turned her large head so that her scarlet eye was boring into Evalda's brown one. "Sewage duty happens to involve your dragon helping out as well. I am not doing that. We will not be getting sewage duty.

Astor slowed down to a stop, his thin wings flapping heavily to maintain their altitude, whilst it was extra work, both of them undoubtedly preferred staying in the air over plummeting onto the rocky terrain below. "Got it." Kaia nodded at Rikard's word, casting her gaze towards the trainees that followed. She had to admit, they were skilled but could they reproduce the same results where it really counted?

Rikard nodded at his sister, shaking his head quickly to sort his hair out as he pulled down his helmet. Then he tugged on Ismael's saddle and steered the dragon around, gesturing for the older hunters to follow him.

The teen pulled up her own bow that had been slung across her shoulders as the others left, tightening her hold on the worn leather grip and waving it in the air to call for attention. "This should be a relatively quick and easy hunt due to the land structure in this area. The valley that Rikard and the older hunters will be chasing the herd into doesn't allow much space for them to roam around in so I suggest that you find someplace where you'll have an accurate shot and wait until your target is in range."

At the other end of the valley, the Chief's Windwalker shot a plume of flames into the air: the signal that his party was about to start the hunt.

Evalda shifted on her dragon, nervous and excited. Still, she couldn't help wondering how much failing this hunt would hurt her chances later on.

Rikard leant forwards in his saddle, heart racing in exhilaration. He would never let it show openly, but he always felt the same thrill of excitement during a hunt. As the dragon dipped lower in the sky, the flock of sheep came into view. The chief was struck by just how many of them there were, and wondered how such a large number could have thrived unnoticed on Berk. Unless... His attention was diverted as the sheep realised the danger they were in and began to head deeper into the valley.

Evalda stared at the sheep, who were beginning to flee. Maybe she could catch them by surprise from the front. "Bryn, we're heading around them. Go the long way and catch them off guard."

Rikard continued the chase, scouring the skies for his sister, who was supposed to be cutting them off with the trainees. He rolled his eyes, tightening his grip on Ismael's neck spikes. Was he the only capable Viking out there?

"Go, now." She said hurriedly to the rest, directing Astor towards the herd. He shot off in a quick explosion of speed, swooping down to allow for a more accurate shot as his rider swiftly nocked an arrow and aimed.
