Amos glanced around shiftily, having discarded his tattered cloak for some slightly more refined clothes that he had purchased whilst looking for a place to stay. He had eventually found the inn and set off to the castle in an attempt to seek permission to use the library for a day but was turned around at the gate with a curt message detailing about how civilians were to be denied access for now. Of course, that didn't deter him either way. Through a bit of manipulation and some sneaking around, he managed to enter the citadel's walls undetected and was currently searching for the archives or whatever they liked to call them there.

"Do you know if you left anything at my house? Then again, even if you did, when we bring it to the trial, we wouldn't have any way to prove we actually got it from my house. I'm not really sure there is any physical evidence."

"Or..." he leaned back, closing his eyes for a moment. "The one thing I always remembered about that old rat was that he never let a single coin slip from his attention. If any money was extracted from his treasury, he documented it. Maybe he documented the payment to the killer?"

"It's likely he did, to prevent the assassin from swindling him. If we can find the document he recorded the transaction on..."

"I can go," she offered. "After all, I'm not the one stuck in the dungeons."

Jac swept down one of the corridors of the citadel, solemnly pondering over the events of the day. She didn't believe the Prince could have killed the King; he didn't appear to have it in him, and what motive could he have, aside from ambition? As a lady of the court, she had a keen eye for spotting selfish desires in others, and although she hated to admit it, she perceived very few in him.

Amos let out a sigh of relief as a group of armed guards passed him without noticing him. They had been huddled together and talking in hushed whispered as they walked, clearly too busy to notice the figure of a rather shady man pressed against the stone walls. He had only caught a several detached words from their conversation, many of which involving the royal family... and a death? That had piqued his attention but if it allowed him a few hours of those in the castle being inattentive to their surroundings, then he better get to work quickly.

The noblewoman reached the end of the corridor and headed around the corner, where a couple of guards moved aside for her to pass. She barely acknowledged them as she strode past, head held high. Somehow she would get to the bottom of it, perhaps earn favours with the Prince. Who knew how a good relation with him could benefit her.

He stuck his head around the corner to check whether the hallway was clear before quickly withdrawing himself as he found that it wasn't. From the brief glimpse he had managed to catch, it was the girl from earlier. What was she doing in the castle? Amos pulled a face, pushing his thoughts to the back of his mind, silently moving in the opposite direction. If he was careful, he would remain uncaught.

She glanced around, pulling a torch from the wall and holding it out in front of her as she continued. From what she'd heard, prince Alain was being held in the dungeons, and perhaps it would suit her to pay him a visit.

Alain nodded to Eliza. "Just be careful. He shouldn't be in there around now, it's King's council."

Amos paused, where was she even going? Wait no. Don't try to follow her. You have a book to find and that's more important than anything else that can crop up. Without it... He sighed, disappearing down another hallway.

Jac gathered her skirts in one hand as she descended a spiralling staircase, her platforms shoes treading delicately the stone floor. She glanced downwards, spotting a group of armoured men wearing the familiar insignia of Camelot, and cursed under her breath. She could not risk the tarnish to her reputation that being seen in the castle dungeons would cause. The guards of course would gossip, as did all of the castle staff.

Amos cursed his own name as he found himself tailing the girl from earlier moments later, expertly slipping past the guards with several tricks of his own. Hopefully, no one noticed. He had learnt from past experiences that if you wanted good information, prying and searching yourself was always the best option. It was only then that he realised that the girl was descending further into the castle, maybe even underground. Was she heading towards the dungeons?

Jac frowned, crouching at the top of the stairs. Her best bet was to distract the guards somehow and slip past them, although she wasn't quite sure how to best get their attention.

"Thank you so much. For everything." The Prince leaned over, quickly pressing a kiss to her lips. "Just in case I don't make it."
